Show car trick, WD-40
Try this, I do and it works and works well.
I spray my entire engine bay with wd-40 all the time, it helps gently loosen dirt and grime and only requires a hose pressure to wash off after doing it a few times.
Just before or when you arrive to a car show spray it down and wipe off excess.

Re: Show car trick, WD-40
I suppose in theory this makes sense. I just know that I have the hardest time getting WD-40 off of paint if it's not on purpose.

Re: Show car trick, WD-40
I used to do this with my 73 Mustang convertible. The ONLY issue I ever found wrong is, if you did not keep up with the cleaning and respraying is the dirt will stick to it. As long as everything is clean when sprayed it helps a LOT! WD-40 doesn't seem to have any negative effects. It stops rust, keeps items soft and makes a dull engine bay shine.
I restore parts and after I dip in Oxalic acid, I spray them with WD-40 to stop the chemical reaction and stops rust....

I will not use Armorall for anything. After a while, there is a chemical in Armorall that breaks down rubber. A lot of these dashes that have cracked over the years have had Armorall on them in years past. It shrinks the rubber over time. I have not seen this with WD-40. I won't even use Armorall on my tires.

Re: Show car trick, WD-40
Anything with a petroleum distilate will break down rubber over time. Either of the above mentioned will make a bay look good from a far, but far from good... Oily greasy mess, and you can't touch anything with out leaving finger prints.
I have been down this road in the car show scene and this is what I use.... AMAZING!!!

Re: Show car trick, WD-40
What is the main ingredient of WD-40?
Before you read to the end, does anybody know what the main ingredient of WD-40 is? Don't lie and don't cheat. WD-40. Who knew; I had a neighbor who bought a new pickup. I got up very early one Sunday morning and saw that someone had spray painted red all around the sides of this beige truck (for some unknown reason). I went over, woke him up, and told him the bad news. He was very upset and was trying to figure out what to do. "Probably nothing until Monday morning, since nothing was open." Another neighbor came out and told him to get his WD-40 and clean it off. It removed the unwanted paint beautifully and did not harm his paint job that was on the truck. I'm impressed! WD-40 who knew? 'Water Displacement #40'. The product began from a search for a rust preventative solvent and degreaser to protect missile parts. WD-40 was created in 1953 by three technicians at the San Diego Rocket Chemical Company. Its name comes from the project that was to find a 'water displacement' compound. They were successful with the fortieth formulation, thus WD-40. The Convair Company bought it in bulk to protect their atlas missile parts. Ken East (one of the original founders) says there is nothing in WD-40 that would hurt you... When you read the 'shower door' part, try it. It's the first thing that has ever cleaned that spotty shower door. If yours is plastic, it works jus t as well as glass. It's a miracle! Then try it on your stovetop ... Viola! It's now shinier than it's ever been. You'll be amazed.
WD-40 uses:
1. Protects silver from tarnishing.
2. Removes road tar and grime from cars.
3. Cleans and lubricates guitar strings.
4. Gives floors that 'just-waxed' sheen without making them slippery.
5. Keeps flies off cows.
6. Restores and cleans chalkboards.
7. Removes lipstick stains.
8. Loosens stubborn zippers.
9. Untangles jewelry chains.
10. Removes stains from stainless steel sinks.
11. Removes dirt and grime from the barbecue grill.
12. Keeps ceramic/terra cotta garden pots from oxidizing.
13. Removes tomato stains from clothing.
14. Keeps glass shower doors free of water spots.
15. Camouflages scratches in ceramic and marble floors.
16. Keeps scissors working smoothly.
17. Lubricates noisy door hinges on vehicles and doors in homes.
18. It removes black scuffmarks from the kitchen floor! Use WD-40 for those nasty tar and scuff marks on flooring. It doesn't seem to harm the finish and you won't have to scrub nearly as hard to get them off. Just remember to open some windows if you have a lot of marks.
19. Bug guts will eat away the finish on your car if not removed quickly! Use WD-40!
20. Gives a children's playground gym slide a shine for a super fast slide.
21. Lubricates gearshift and mower deck lever for ease of handling on riding mowers...
22. Rids kids' rocking chairs and swings of squeaky noises.
23. Lubricates tracks in sticking home windows and makes them easier to open.
24. Spraying an umbrella stem makes it easier to open and close.
25. Restores and cleans padded leather dashboards in vehicles, as well as v inyl bumpers.
26. Restores and cleans roof racks on vehicles.
27. Lubricates and stops squeaks in electric fans.
28. Lubricates wheel sprockets on tricycles, wagons, and bicycles for easy handling.
29. Lubricates fan belts on washers and dryers and keeps them running smoothly.
30. Keeps rust from forming on saws and saw blades, and other tools.
31. Removes splattered grease on stove.
32. Keeps bathroom mirror from fogging.
33. ; Lubricates prosthetic limbs.
34. Keeps pigeons off the balcony (they hate the smell).
35. Removes all traces of duct tape.
36. Folks even spray it on their arms, hands, and knees to relieve arthritis pain.
37. Florida 's favorite use is 'cleans and removes love bugs from grills and bumpers.'
38. The favorite use in the state of New York , WD-40 protects the Statue of Liberty from the elements.
39. WD-40 attracts fish. Spray a little on live bait or lures and you will be catching the big one in no time. Also, it's a lot cheaper than the chemical attractants that are made for just that purpose. Keep in mind though, using some chemical laced baits or lures for fishing are not allowed in some states.
40. Use it for fire ant bites. It takes the sting away immediately and stops the itch.
41. WD-40 is great for removing crayon from walls. Spray on the mark and wipe with a clean rag.
42. Also, if you've discovered that your teenage daughter has washed and dried a tube of lipstick with a load of laundry, saturate the lipstick spots with WD-40 and rewash. Presto! The lipstick is gone!
43. If you sprayed WD-40 on the distributor cap, it would displace the moisture and allow the car to start.
44. Remove the glue under labels on jars.
P.S. The basic ingredient is FISH OIL

I love chemical guys stuff there was this purple color fine cut compound that did wonders for the iroc after it's paint job. hit the car with 1500 then 2000 then the 5000 orbiting pad then hit it with that purple stuff. wow what a shine. the came back with pete's 53 and 50/50 makes for a sweet looking ride.
Bad part 10 minutes after this pic was taken the oil pump froze up and i had to disassemble the car

14. Keeps glass shower doors free of water spots.
I have VERY hard water, so my glass shower door always get real white "spotty". Lime-Away does miracles to take off the water deposits, but I figured I'd check out this WD-40 claim.
It not only barely removed any, but the result was such a foggy door that it took 3x as long using the Lime-Away to get rid of the WD-40 than it would have if I had just used Lime-Away to start with!
Maybe a coat of WD-40 on clear glass would help it to shed the water faster & slow the calcium buildup in the future, but the foggy glass afterwards from the WD-40 just ain't worth the cleaning effort.
Sorry, but I gotta say #14 is totally bogus.

I'm not gonna try it cause if what sticks to my hands and leave finger prints is any signs... I'm pretty sure it will get tracked onto my carpet too LOL!!!
Those uses are funny though

Re: Show car trick, WD-40
WD-40 Is not good for plastic or vinyl. In # 23.good for home window NO'don't ever use on home window. Sure it may seam to make them slide up and down easy. But it soften up the vinyl and after the windows have shut the vinyl will end up fusing it self together.
never use WD-40 on anything you are going to weld.
I stopped useing WD-40 for anything but to help remove stubbern bots.

Here's a link to their official site. The bit mentioning the fish oil, or lack thereof, is the 3rd bit from the bottom of the page, under the title: "What a fish story!"

If you mean Amorall you are doing any rubber in your car a disjustice, it just dries it all out. We don't use any silicone based products in our detail area. If you go to a detail shop and they are using Amorall and Turtle Wax or even McGuires you need to find a new detail shop.

I've always washed my engine bays with soapy suds and water ringed/ranged/rung from a cloth or sponge. My 2002 won 2 trophies for best in class at NTTGA.org car shows. Absolutely nothing special about the car except it looked perfect.

#20 and #4 make that not add up!!! I only use it once in a while for crusty bolts... But a good ole can of PB Blaster(from any parts store) will do the trick, and clean glue residue of auto glass(think stickers)
