Re: Nicest Car On The Board
Actually I'm not angry at all, just frustrated at what seems to be weak knee'd leadership. I feel that many of us have a really cool vision for the future of this forum, but we're not taken seriously. There are lots of opportunitys to make things great around here, but I see no strong desire to take out the trash and re-model a few things. Is the management really forward thinking or are they just involved enough to avoid total meltdown? Is this site a cash cow thats being milked until it's gone or is there honest buy in to the product we're all here for? I'm not saying the site is terrible, because it's not, but the ingredients are here for greatness once we drop the incompetence that runs so rampant around some areas.
JT himself has said he likes some of these ideas, but then gets lukewarm about implementing things because people will complain? Do what is best for the site and the community then ban the idiots. I don't see the need to please everyone. Do the best you can to please the competent contributors and be open and honest about your plans and they will support you with great tech content and a solid member base.
I don't want this to be a rant session, but I've been a member here since 1999(under my first name and no I was not banned) I've spent countless hours here. This site has been a huge part of my life, and as such I'm inclined to be vocal about how I see things because I've made a lot of investment here. Maybe there is a ton I'm missing here, and I'm probably over simplifying things. I welcome site admin to come in and illustrate the error of my logic. I don't want to only throw stones, I'm trying to provide solutions as well.

Re: Nicest Car On The Board
Well just make up a few threads then if you want to vote on it, you have quite the eye for fabrication and maybe a panel of a few guys can vote on some cars. Personally I can't see cars with mismatched paint schemes or non painted hoods, missing interior panels, bad wiring, etc etc winning the "best of" type thing. I was shocked to even have my name brought up With all the hours into my car it's still not in the top standing IMO. Not sure who you wanted to "vote" on these things anymore, some of these mods I don't even see post anymore or are that active so really it's an open place these days since the sale. Site isn't what it was 5+ years ago, but these cars are dirt cheap now and any kid can buy it and post on here.

nah, still a long road to go to be anywhere near the top, I can point out the flaws anytime someone wants to sit around for a few hours
it's ok I still love that motor....mmmmmm hmmmmm. If we ever go to a car show I can point out 5 other owners that are faster though. Oh, a time slip, nah that's not needed. I learned all I need to on powerblock tv.

Re: Nicest Car On The Board
1MeanZ, I wasn't aware of this topic or thread until I just found it. Personally, I tend to favor the idea of COTM if it could work. I agree that it would be good for the site to showcase some good examples of these cars within the community. Original cars, well-done modified or restored cars.
If it were to occur, I'd prefer to keep it in this section (or something near it) because I think it's most inline and would probably see the most participation. Yes, voting is a concern because of the problems it brings. I don't suspect the staff wants to be solely responsible for the voting or deciding process. Perhaps have some well-established members be part of, or responsible for, the project to which I could help with the tech side? Or something mutual? Having some sort of involvement from the community may be better.
My suggestion would be having a mix of Camaros and Firebirds, that consist of original, well-done modified or restored, ThirdGens. All must be presentable.
If you, and/or others, would like to assist with this project, that could be a start. Get something to me to be presented with some working plan/structure/idea and perhaps it can be done or atleast trialed. The car could be showcased on the homepage, as well as within the forum.

Re: Nicest Car On The Board
you got a deal then. From here on I'll be taking this to PMs. I'm nominating myself, BADNBLK and toxik IROC as the "3 musketeers" to get this rolling. My vision here is something akin to a brief magazine article. I got my feet wet doing some of this with GMHTP. The 3 of us will use threads like this to find cars we feel represent well, we'll collectively choose a car for that month. We will then contact the owner for more info, pictures, parts used, etc. It could be fun to get quotes from the owner etc. Then the COTM can be featured on the home page with a link or a sticky on this board. All selected COTMs will then be archived after their month has expired so people can still go back and check out all the cars and info from months past if they like. Lots more details to cover, but I'll not clutter this thread with them. BADNBLK, and toxik IROC you guys will be getting a PM from me later today or tomorrow. JT, I'll be contacting you after a discussion with those guys to iron out enough details to get started.

1meanz-Sounds good to me, just let me know how I can help, I am happy to read that JT is giving us a chance to see what we can do.
JT-Thank you for being open minded and giving us a shot , I've been an active user for years and love this site. I am sitting here reading tgo at 4am....I am addicted to this site.....yeah I know...I know I should sleep more.
Everyone- It is time to step up! Lets show JT and the other mods, that WE CAN do this! That we do not act like 3 year old kid. That we can be respectful, and helpful to other, with no complaining if your car does not get picked. Come on let's all just step it up! I don't want this to fail!
Ok I Think I will go to bed and stop reading this awsome site....

I'm thinking that the COTM thing should be a bird and a camaro each month but alternate months with "stock" cars one month then modified cars the next..
I'm just thrown ideas out to see what sticks..

** So should we proceed with the nomintions thread that I established for this month, and then modify for the next one (February COTM)? I'd honestly like to see that the nomination at least make it enough to be polled.
JT - Thank you for coming in and explaining where you stand with this. I was sincerely bummed after getting the PM's back from Mods about the subject. My idea for making a public nominated COTM seemed easy enough to me, but can easily see where problems could arise... I just wanted a little help with locking a thread after an announcement has been made and them deleting to prevent confusion. I hope that we can make something that this site and the whole 3rd gen community can be proud of, and maybe scare up and bring back some of the amazing 3rd gens being built on other forums with some much needed site improvements.

Ok here are my votes... all have their one big mod but all are equally legends in their own. First up my mentor...kandied91z with his air ride technologies prototype air ride system and carbon fiber sub box.
next up is niels widebody z with the amazing hogan sheetmetal intake on his 454lsx and his nasty 325/35r18 tires.
Third would be nufnuffz28 with his amazing diffusers and front chin spoilers along with that sweet procharger. I dig the snowflake wheels too.
last but not least(and suprised no one has mentioned it) 1984 camaros "sano" camaro with the Nelson Racing 1700hp all polished aluminum twin turboed 427 with an engine bay beautifuly molded around it. True sleeper.

That car looks sick standing still. But it if it truly does run well that makes it even better.

Thanks! I remember that you sold it to someone that lived not too far from me. I believe he was south of Buffalo and I know he also owned a 3rd gen Camaro. I think he sold the GTA a year or two ago and I don't know who bought it or where they live. Out of curiosity, how did you stumble upon that paint color and decide to use it for your GTA?

Didn't like the gunmetal at the time (do now though) so I wanted a change but nothing drastic because I was in high school and couldn't afford to paint the engine bay and door jambs so I wanted it to blend in a bit. While I was at the paint shop they had a 1997 dodge caravan platinum edition. Think it was a 15th anniversary or something and I liked the paint. So ya... Came from a caravan lol

67-72chevytrucks.com nails the "truck of the month" theme. Each month, they pick a theme and entries must comply. My 78 won Truck of the Month for the theme, "Stock Interiors." Right now they have Longbeds as the theme. We could easily do something like that on a monthly basis. You can only win one competition a year.
Examples:
Strictly Stock
Interior
Formulas
IROCs
Restomods
Track Stars
1/4 mile rides
Clean Engine Bays
LSX
etc.

Re: Nicest Car On The Board
It's exciting to see I can disappear for some time and still be mentioned and it's also a bit disappointing that the bar hasn't been raised much since i've been on here. Most of what's posted here we were doing in early 2000... I must say though that 1700 horsepower car is beautiful, but can't possibly run well on the street. Love to see it in a more street-able version not that it matters much. As some others mentioned here it is unfortunate but a fact that those with the most money typically their cars end up the nicest, but it isn't always the case. I remember pulling doubles and choosing to stay in on saturday nights to work on my car to get it where it was, some just make more sacrifice then others. Was it worth it? Who's to say but i enjoyed it.
It's definitely nice to see some oldies on here that have come a long way in their build, some of you guys have really stepped it up from years past where you first started with your projects which is exciting. I am looking forward to introducing the next level in my thirdgen builds this summer as hopefully it will spring board some new innovations but in the end there are so many nice rides on here just be happy with what you have. Keep building what you can as there is no point in competing with everyone as it will just wear you out. Work together to build up the thirdgen name and we will all benefit from it.
