LED Projector headlights installation - eBay - Wiring question
So like everyone else, my headlights suck. I was looking over eBay and decided to purchase these exact headlights: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/91-93...ht_5594wt_1165
Now, the guy listed '92 Firebird as one of the cars the headlights will work in. And he's right, I took off my old headlights and these worked...but there were two wires that didn't go anywhere..? Pictures:
Here are the front and back of them.
And here is the wires coming from original headlights after taking off the black adapter:
Now those plug directly into the headlights from eBay...without any adapter and they work. It did come with this adapter:
But anyways, at the bottom there are these black and white wires coming out, which appear to be connected to this blue bulb in the headlight housing.
My question is, what are those two wires? Also, he said they were "LED" but when they were plugged in they were the typical yellowish light that I'm not looking for...no improvement really. Is that blue bulb what makes it brighter? Like I have no idea...I need some help haha.

I am guessing that is what gives the lights that blueish tint color everyone likes? Otherwise it might just be a night time effect of the housings glowing blue on non pop up headlight vehicles. Have any pictures of them plugged in and on?

Re: LED Projector headlights installation - eBay - Wiring question
Haha... The LED didnt come on because they arent hooked up! Actually..I hightly doubt that is even an LED...Im betting its a 194 bulb with a blue condom on it.
That is what some refer to as a "city light". Its a "european" thing I think. And its been well documented that those ebay housings are crumby. If you bought them thinking they were full LED head lights....or even remotely close to a "projector" housing, then you were grossly mislead.
That being said... if you want those blue lights to come on, just give them 12v and a ground. It might give you a bit of bluish tint when they are on, but I dont know how much you'd even see them when the lights are on. Its more for cars that have the lights always exposed...so you can have that blue light on with the parking lights. On our birds, thats not possible unless you leave your lights popped up all the time. If the lights are yellow now..then you need to upgrade the bulbs with either some higher wattage bulbs, or upgrade the harness so they get the power they need.

I have the same headlights but in a 7x6 because mines an 84. I put HIDs in and its not that bad for cheap ebay stuff. lights the road 10x better than the oem crap.
I didn't hook up the blue bulb. No point

Re: LED Projector headlights installation - eBay - Wiring question
using those "projector" housings with a true HID kit are a bad idea, theres no cut off built in so it will blind the CRAP out of everyone else on the road. and since they arent a really projector, it wont focus HID lighting like it should, so you have light thats really not all that much better from a stock replacement sylvania silverstar sealed beem halogen.
Those housings with just the crappy h4 bulbs they include are actually a step BELOW the replacement silverstars....

Re: LED Projector headlights installation - eBay - Wiring question
I hooked them up today without the blue bulb and...well they suck ***. The light just goes everywhere and the light doesn't even shine on the ground, it's everywhere but the road. And I can't adjust them down because there isn't an adjustment screw there..
And also...I may have hooked them up wrong, because now my brights light on my dash won't go off, and when I turn on the brights, the lights go super dim...help?

The pins are wrong on the bulbs, just pull them and swap them.

Re: LED Projector headlights installation - eBay - Wiring question
I know this an old thread but I didnt know where else to post. I know everyone says they're **** but I like them and want to make them work. I purchased these last week and tried to hook them up yesterday and for some reason the housings keep filling up with smoke and then they shut on and off as if theres a bad connection or something. I checked the plugs and connection and its all fine. DO you guys think I need to put a bigger in line fuse in the wiring or a stronger switch? Help please

Can't help ya...I threw those things away they were junk. Bought just regular oem headlights from Oreilly and they were twice as bright. Aside my from headlights the only bulbs I buy are from superbrightleds.com...they are great quality.

Re: LED Projector headlights installation - eBay - Wiring question
the problem is they will actually give you less light output than your stock lights. its not even worth getting them to work if you need to drive at night. they're useless for anything other than a starting point for true projector HID lighting.

Re: LED Projector headlights installation - eBay - Wiring question
OK here we go. The 2 extra wires are correctly identified as a "city light"/ European parking light is the best description. My Jeeps and Fiero had the Cibie version of these installed, I disconnected the normal parking light and used amber filters on #1816 bulbs.
The lamps themselves are junk for conventional use; the only use I would have would be as a housing to stuff projector assemblies into.
There are some good lamps on eBay though, there are some I have my eye on and will purchase in the rare case I can't get my local guy to almost match price on. The thing to look for is on the lens, you want it to have an "H4: on it AND the e/E markings on them and make note of the number which IDs the country where they were certified, I have also gone with 1,2,3,5 (Germany, France, Italy, Sweden)
The Autopal lamps I have heard are eCode and DOT approved. I havent seen any markings on the lamps to corroborate that; furthermore, the only SAE approval for am eCode lamp is limited to motorcycle use only. To meet the eCode requirements the lamps exceed the specs that we are suck with in the US (and the eCode lamp is legal in every other country but ours). As Autopal is located in India which is not part of the EU I don't see how they would get one anyways.

Re: LED Projector headlights installation - eBay - Wiring question
Is it the LEDs or the H4 that are doing this?
LEDs are polarity sensitive, so I would check the wiring going into it to make sure you have that squared away.
What wattage is the H4? The OEM harness is marginal at best for stock headlights. If the bulbs are any larger than 55/60 I would be upgrading to relays and new sockets.
If the switch was the problem then the switch would be smoking. If the fuses were the problem they would blow out.
