cleaning the coolant and washer tank

Any ideas for cleaning the tanks and making them white again? I did a search and everyone said to replace them, but those posts are really old and they are not available anymore.

Re: cleaning the coolant and washer tank

I have heard using Lestoil. It's a kitchen purpose item that you add into these tanks and seal them off with some water inside. Shake, wait overnight and dump the gunk away.

Home Depot has CLR,,, cleans away Calcium, Lime and Rust.

A few bucks of experimentation would not hurt.

i have done the liquid plumber thing . worked great , coolant tank looked almost new . clean with soap water , seal openings with sandwich bags & rubber bands . open neck , pour in about 2 cups of liquid plumber , poke a wet wash cloth in it , re-seal . slosh it around , coat the inside well . let set on different sides for about 15-20 mins. . flush tank & repeat if needed . worked for me , good luck .

ps : forgot to mention , use liquid plumber GEL .

Also use a bottle brush to get into the nooks and crannies. But you can but them new. They are pretty reasonable

Not only does ModernDay sell them, but the part numbers are still good here:

http://www.gmpartsdirect.com/index.c...TOKEN=43475709

14070997 (Coolant)
10078368 (Washer)

EDIT: If you're not into new, by all means try Uncle Tom's fix. After all he's been around for a long, long, long, very long time (rumor has it that he helped the Roman's wrench on their chariots) and has a ton of tricks up his sleeve.

How about this for the coolant tank? I didn't realize there was a difference (learn something new every day).

Great to hear about the Plummer Gel. Everyone always gets to the checkout page when buying these and says, "Wait, what else do I REALLY need for my car?" and off they go. LOL at least thats how it is for me...

Try these

Google - Universal Spinners. The wiper fluid has the Moroso screw top welded on.

Or just buy new ones. Always looks better under the hood.

the small tank (if you look very close) has a small tab towards center . that tab is used to support the duct work for a factory dual snorkel air cleaner . i happen to have one from an 82 parts car i used to have . did you know that James ??? (i'm still going to get you)
