Re: Early 5 spoke Z28 rims only!
Apart from them being 15x7, I think these are the perfect 3rd gen rims.
Not sure if I should have these widened to 8", or have a custom set of 17x8 made in this exact style.
I should also make some new photos. I have the center on them caps now

I definitely want mine widened. Probably "8.5" ( 8.4375" because 1/16" is lost from the cutting ) Then need some spacers.
Since a 235/60 fits on an 8" up front with 4" BS, and since an 8" with 4.5" BS also fits, then an 8.5" spaced to equal a 4.5" BS should be fine with a 245/60.
evilemo, that's a great shot of your car!
solitaire, what tire sizes in your pic? that rear shot makes your paint look great.

Re: Early 5 spoke Z28 rims only!
The pictures makes the paint look nice indeed.
They were made with a cellphone. I guess that says more about teh photographer then about the car however. Paint i terrible. Has some runners and orange peel, and booth doors have a bunch of dings in them.
The previous owner added at least 15 lbs in black paint on top of the original gunmetal.
I intend to straighten the sheetmetal and repaint completely clean to bare metal, then repaint using BC/CC in glossy blackwithin the next two years.
The tires are the stock 215/65 R15. The car came with new tires when I got it, and I'll keep those untill I have decided what's going to happen with the wheels.
8,5" with 4,5" backspace should be fine.
I had some 8" with 5,3" backspacing on the car with the 215/65 tires without any rubbing.
Here's a nice tool to see what happens when changing backspacing and width:

Re: Early 5 spoke Z28 rims only!
Just got a quote in from a german rim manufacturer.
They are willing to make a set of rims, with the Z28 style, in 17x8 or 17x8,5 for $4000. For that money you get CNC'ed rims machined out of one massive 17" aluminum alloy cylinder.
I figured it would be about as much.
With a paintjob and an engine overhaula nd upgrade still to go I guess it will be 2 years at the soonest before I get to do something as fancy as this.

Re: Early 5 spoke Z28 rims only!
@ 68Strat, thnx.
It´s ok but not much more then that. Has a few dents, and it needs a new paintjob.
I just got the paints for the undercarriage and stabilizers/axles in yesterday.
The new lower control arms I have to weld still, the tubular panhard bar, tubular torque arm, wonderbar, A arms and stabilizers are going to get painted in neutral grey. The rear axle and remainin parts in matte black.
I´ll start tearing into cleaning up the undercarriage and removing the single components for paint this weekend.

Re: Early 5 spoke Z28 rims only!
please please please. avoid the temptation to buy the ones that are all plastic. get the OEM ones with the metal retaining tabs
even used ones can be refurbished easily to look really really nice.
I just picked up 3 NOS grey ones, knowing I can paint them if I ever have to put them into service

Re: Early 5 spoke Z28 rims only!
Thanks Puma.....those pics are obliviously pretty old lol
I just rolled over to 80k miles last weekend.....last time I had it at the track was right before my first son was born in 88 lol, use to do other racing back in the day but again with kids that has long lost its appeal. I am more of a cruise type event personality, haven't done shows for many many years unless it was to specifically go see friends at ..... we normally try to go to "driving" cruises and things like the Power Tour, the fun for me is in the journey and drive, we will normally drive 200-400 miles round trip just to go to a cruise for the day/evening.

We now have POLISHED 15x7 inch 5-spoke wheels available on our site. We polish them to a mirror finish similar to chrome and repaint the accents the color of your choice. We can also polish your existing wheels if you have a set in need of refinishing. Here's a link the the wheels on our site.

mine are polished with black inserts. I've never seen a set of these with polished inserts. that would be pretty difficult and time consuming to do, but might look great on certain cars

Also, according to Camaro - The Third Generation, the guys who designed the car said they ripped off the wheels straight from a Ferrari, and this was in reference to the '82 model.
Im guessing they mean these:

That would look nice, but the selection of white letter tires is getting thin.
Getting rid of the puke grey paint would do a lot
