MY DIY rim/wheel paint
So when i bought my Camaro it came with a stock set of 15'' z28 wheels, they were pretty beat up and had some grim on them but after cleaning them up they looked decent, but they weren't what i was wanting, without the funds to buy some zo6 wheels or some te37's i decided to just paint the rims i had until i could afford some new ones. ![wants attention](https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/images/smilies/attention.gif)
I first wiped them down and hit them with some goo gone and cleaned them up. They were looking like this:

After that i used a coat of flat black 99 cent paint from wally world
let dry 5 min heat gun at 500ish degrees and let dry 5 more min:

Second coat, 5min + heat gun + 5min:

third coat, 5min +heat gun + 30min:

gloss all purpose clear coat, 10min + heat gun + 5 hours:

waited until fully dry and removed tape:

I took a butane torch to it and held it there for about a min and tried to scrape off the paint, not even a scratch a lot more durable than i had imagined. Looks better than the stock rims in my opinion and a lot cheaper than having a shop powder coat them/ but i am not saying if i had the money i wouldn't have them powder coated

Very well done! Now just get rid of all the corrosion on the inside where the rim contacts the tire so you don't get a rim leak.

Re: MY DIY rim/wheel paint
Don't these wheels have a clear coat sprayed on them? I don't know how well paint sprayed onto clear will hold up. I bought a set of similar wheels and had to use "Aircraft Stripper" on them to remove the clear. Did the "Goo-Gone" look like it was removing the clear coat?
