Notch Back Pro's and Con's?????

well first let me say the oem ones don't look so good, the aftermarket ones have a better shape and look.

but how does this affect aero dynamics and handling???

what about a wing??? should it have one or not???

does the stock wing do anything but look good???
or would it work great on the notch back???

does it matter if you can open it???

i have a pic of both the oem and after market at my link below.

which one do you like???

does anyone have one and really like how it affected you car???

or is there ayone who has one and likes the looks but thats about it???

I like the OEM. And the "aftermarket" version looks like its just a body kit on top of the oem notch? And i think its ugly also, but thats me.

At a magic speed (not sure what that speed is, may be rediculously high) the notch will mess you up. It's just not good aerodynamics. Not to mention your itty-bitty trunk just got a lot itty-bitty-er.

Personally, l do not like them.

well i was thinking on getting a notchback from Motion Glass down on long island ny...I don't think they look that bad...

Goods about notchback
1. There is'nt many notchback only i think about 650-700 f-body's, and all GTA's. So they are a rarity.
2. The do look pretty cool especially if you have an IROC or 90-92 Maro and I've only seen 2 Maro's that I know of online that have notchbacks.
3. It eliminates many of the creeks/rattles/ and other various sounds of the factory hatchback. Also you can sound deadin the notchback.

Cons of Notchback.....
1. It cuts rear quarter blind spot by like 10-20 degrees
2. On Factory Hatchbacks there is a little point in the middle where some factory Spoilers will not work.
3. Notchbacks are expensive because they are so rare expect to pay at least 500-600 for factory notchback
4. Aftermarket Notchback like Motion Glass Notchback are about 900 dollars unpainted about 100-200 for shipping and about another 150 for painting it, bringing total to about $1200-$1400
5. People like to vandelize them.

I would really like to see a pic of the GT auto accessories notch back on an 85-90 T/A with GFX and the aero spoiler. I think it would look good. I dont like the factory notch back because of the angle it slopes down after the sail panel. the GT Auto one slopes down at the same angle as the factory glass, so I think it will look good from the side. Its alot like the back of a 70's vette. And with the aero spoiler, and especially the ram air hood, I think it will all look good together.

yea, i put there link on my page and email him for a pic. they just started making them this week. so i hope it all went well. but i got first dibs on the scrtach n dent special.

dibs

myself i was thinking of just using it as a summer hatch, just leave it bare, no window or nothing, maybe primer black.

would be good too use at the drags, lose some weight fast.

I think the weight saved by taking off the hatch would be negated by the drag caused by the disruption of flow over the body... I think notchbacks look like big Fieros and I don't like Fieros... you shouldn't see much of a difference in handling... it will just lower the effectiveness of the spoiler, and of course cause more drag... besides that it's all appearence.

I could understand taking weight off the car for drag racing but would it really be a good idea to take the weight off the rear while autocrossing?
