Big pics of my progress so far.... (paint job)

So far we've taken care of most of the dents in the body, i sprayed most of the engine bay satin black and today we went out and wet sanded the entire car. Tomorroww were gonna shoot with primer and wet sand the whole thing again. I haven't decided what im gonna do about the firewall yet. As of now, it's still red, but it's just not gonna look right once its painted. Oh by the way, did i mention i'm painting it hugger orange? Really theres not too much mroe to do before it goes into the paint booth on October 12 and 13th. Hopefully i'll have pics of the painting process along with the completed product shortly afterwards.

It's lookin' good so far. I painted my bay when the motor was out. It must be tough to do it with the motor in there. Looks pretty good. I cant wait to see the final product!

painting the bay with the motor in was a huge PITA. I took almost an entire day taking absolutely everything i possible could out of there and then taping as much of the rest as i could. then i just started painting, really REALLY slowly. It took another two hours of painting little areas and moving things aside so i could get at the bay. I haven;t even done the firewall and im not sure if im going to either. I might just take some of the big pieces off and hit the larger more noticable areas.

just some more info on the progress, tonight we taped up the entire car, tomoroww were gonna spray the whole thing in primer, then wet sand it again Wed. night. AFter that it gets one more coat of primer, then its off to the Air base paint booth to be sprayed. I cant wait, im so tired of driving this:

now grant you it looks nice, and the 302 sounds nice. But its 4.56 gears and a dying C4 tranny that shifts at 3800 rpms dont do much for gas mileage. Ive achieved a whopping 11 miles to the gallon in this thing. Not to mention the dent in the back from a stupid high school chick in a sunfire who felt she didn't need to look while backing up. Yes, im am definately ready to have the Camaro back.

why am i wet sanding? i have no idea. My dad says wet sand and i wet sand.

We pulled the bigger dents out using one of those spot welding pin kit things from eastwood (dont ask me how to to do this, my dad did it), and the little stuff we just smoothed over with bondo

The orange stuff you see in the last picture is glazing putty. Again i have no idea what it does or why were using it.

If you haven't been able to guess by now, i know nearly nothing about body work.

And yes, i am the krylon king (even though its rustoleom

Wet sanding is a very important set because if you do not wet sand there is a chance of sand brooves showing through once you have painted the car even in base coat clear coat applications you want to wet sand after you first two coats of primer and then after your first or second coats of paint. This will produce the best looking show car finish

well we put another layer of primer on it last night and then dry sanded it down this morning. We just got done putting the final layer of primer on it. Tomoroww were gonna wet sand it one more time and then its off to the paint booth on October 13th. Then i gotta wait another week to get the booth again so i can do the fenders (taking them off tomoroww), the hood, all the ground effects, the bumpers and the spoiler. *sigh* only two mroe weeks before i have her back, man i cant wait.....

The polish is still on there because i went straight from losing first round to my garage to start working on the body, and never got around o taking it off. Its not really hurting anything, so for the time being, its staying right there...
