Can this be buffed out?

Here are some pics of the car and I was wondering if these kind of things can be buffed out. Like there are small 1/4 inch wide chunks of paint all over the front bumper and parts where clearcoat is going bad. So can these be fixed

Here they are. These are all on either the trunk or the roof.

Re: Can this be buffed out?

In short...no. Thats your clear coat failing. The only way to fix that is what your thinking now probably...new paint job.

Re: Can this be buffed out?

honestly i doubt you could, BUT it doesnt hurt to try going over it really good with an even cheap buffer and meguiars ultimate compound or turtle wax premium rubbing compound (its in an green/black bottle with an black charger on front)

I would imagine even if it doesnt 100 percent fix it, it may help it but im not positive, iv never tried the ultimate compound but i have the mentioned turtle wax stuff and lets just say WOW.

Re: Can this be buffed out?

Thats what I was thinking. But couldnt I try buffing it (clearcoat)and wouldnt sort of melt it and make it blend to look better? I cant afford a paint job but I have a friend with a buffer. What about the spots where there are chips? Can I buff the chipped and scratched spots? So what your saying is that it wont fix the bad peeling on the trunk and roof but everything else should be able to buff.

Its not going to really look any better where the clearcoat is already peeling. Its just shot in those areas. Im not saying the entire car wont look better with a buff but you wont get rid of the peelly clearcoat. No chance. If you dont have money for a repaint i suggest you try a buff on it and keep some good wax on it until you do have money for a paintjob. A buff will take out minor scratches and imperfections but dont expect showroom from it.

I know it wont be 100% but I was just hoping I could atleast remove the scratches and some of the chipped paint. Can buffing atleast do that?

Depends how deep they are. If they are not that bad then yes. If they are bad then no. Also whoever is using the buffer...i hope he knows what he is doing. It is very easy to burn through a finish if you dont. I wont touch a car with a buffer because i dont have enough experience but my buddy is an autobody tech...so i let him do it lol.

Re: Can this be buffed out?

those chips you wont be able to remove but just go over them with touchup paint, it looks much better even if the paint match isnt perfect.
