I built this car back in 1995.....it was an '86 Z28, red with silver gfx. Rebuilt the entire car, 400+hp 355, 5 speed, new everything. Wanted to build an IROC but couldn't find one at the time that needed an engine, so i made this one look like one. (Except for the WELD wheels) And when I sold it, I told the dude it was not a true IROC.

I always get asked "How many miles are on this thing??" And they are always surprised that it has as many as it does, lol. It's got 21,000 and looks like a 5k mile car

"Does it have the 350?" Or " Does it have that Corvette motor? ". Then you get those that say" I had IROC like that back in 85. ".

i often get compliments on my car . i tell them its not just a car , it's my baby . asked what year , how fast , etc. . a few times if it's for sale , when i say no most reply too bad . one guy asked what i would have to get for it , i told him you would not want to pay . he replied don't be too sure ( he was not a kid ) . when i said 12K he said i would ask that if it were mine . oh well , just my comments .

So technically I haven't been asked about the car yet. But on the way back from Maryland to Iowa, picking up my late mom's car, I had about a 1/2 dozen waves/points/thumbs-up/honks. Can't wait to get it on the street.

Not third gen but one of the comments made me laugh .I swapped a 2.8 v6 in an s10 years ago, had old engine on floor and kid asks me if it was "one of them there small block shivys". I was like oh yeah it's a small block alright 😂

I often got 2xx,xxx miles, you must be on your third motor... nope pulled the running, non smoking, non oil burning 305 out at at 212k miles for an LS1 swap. (though lets be honest with a 2.72 rear and 700r4 it spent most of those miles at just above idle)
The other most common was, does the T-tops leak (they didn't in the rain (they would with pressure washer) I adjusted them several times over the years.
Though the funniest conversation I had was Nice paint job it must of cost a lot.... no not really its Macco... it can't be... it is I took off everything in their parking lot, had them paint it, I put the lights back in drove it home and blacked out the inner fenders to cover the over spray, and wet sanded and buffed it. (though to be honest it was $1000 in 1998 so it wasn't their base package)
I had it out in the front driveway washing off the finger prints after the engine swap a few weeks ago and a random neighbor stopped and was chatting about the engine swap. He mentioned the "factory" paint and was dumb founded when I said no its Macco from 1998.
I'm glad it seems these cars are starting to get some value to them though-- its time to strip the Macco paint off and put on some higher dollar paint once I finish the LS1 details.

I get the "Is it an IROC?" all the time. I'm sick of trying to explain that "they stopped making the IROCs in 90, but it's a Z28...." They always get a glazed over look on thier face. Now I just say yes. *sighs*

Outside of car shows the people who talk to me about the car are usually the same people who gave these cars the negative stereotypes. They're usually telling me that they used to have one of those or to peel out.
