I see NO problem getting a 350 to do consistent and repeatable 28 MPG, carbureted. I can give you an exact build combo that WILL do it. If you then want to spend weeks fine-tuning every micro detail, yes, 29 is possible. 30 is plausible. But to do it, you have to follow my recipe precisely, even if you don't like my parts / brands choices. ANY deviation WILL hurt your results, no matter what the deviation is. EFI will hurt MPG, since it has to run a relatively rich 14.7:1. Going to 29 MPG will require running at 18:1, which EFI doesn't do. It'd cost 2 mega-fortunes to get EFI to do the 18:1, but with high-pressure multi-port injection, running 19:1 should be possible. Will that return 31 MPG? I can't say, as it hasn't ever been attempted. Not with a 350 in a Trans Am or Corvette.

Other thing i get asked is, "Does that get 10mpg?" I promptly say NO! I just averaged 28mpg city highway combined on a road trip. It is a 305. People think because a v8 is a powerful motor it means it is shitty gas mileage? People who ask me about my car usually own a 30mpg beat up civic with a fart can.

ya my 87 iroc has z28 on the side ground effects and on the dash and back bumper but the doors say iroc-z at first i thought i got ripped off and got sold a z28 with iroc doors but looked up the vin and it is a true iroc

i have an rs and yesterday one guy asked what year it was, another guy later that night asked whats my iroc run, i said its a rs with a 305 with 200k on it.
Yesterday i went to the jy and the guy what model am i lookin for i told him 82-92 camaro he goes oh whats that the iroc body style? i said yes but theres also the rs, the z/28 and not. i told him ill be another time and left..

Yes, I love the "experts". My son and I were standing by my '89 at a cruise night, several years ago. Not knowing that I was the owner, an "expert" was pointing out all the work done on my 'restoration' to his friend, (my car is original). He pointed out that it had 109,000 original miles, (I had 9,000), how it was obviously a California car, (well...it was born in Van Nuys ). He spent the next 5 minutes going around the car, telling his friend about all the mistakes made in it's restoration, ending with, "I can tell you for a fact that these are not the factory tail lights".

This guy was so damned entertaining to me, I didn't have the heart to interrupt him and correct him.

Not sure lol, Of course thats highway driving. But its a trusty old 350 TBI engine, with all new gaskets, open element filter, and a 3 inch Borla exhaust system with no catalytic converter.

The open high speed lane is when attempted to get up to 130mph. And yes, my car has reached over 130mph. The computer tells me to slow down at 145mph.
