Help w/GTA Badges
I just bought a '91 GTA(5.0 5-spd). It has the GTA badges behind the front fender, but there's a bird on the sail panels, and no badge on the nose. I checked the VIN, and it is a GTA. Is it possible this is factory correct, or are there badges missing?
Thanks

somethings wrong, a GTA is supose to have a 5.7L V8, not 5.0L. And also on the 91 GTA there were no nose emblems, just a small bird

hi there,
i have 4 gta trans am's so i am very familar with them. i never owned a 91 or 92 but i believe they had a nose emblem as well the 87-90 has a stud on the back which it mounts. mkay as the v.i.n goes that wont tell ya if its a gta or not. you will need to look at the s.p.i label and look for Y84. the spi label is in the console in 87-90 and i believe they are on the rear compartment glove box in the 91-92 gta's. the sail emblems are taped on so they can fall off. ask frankie at the gtasourcepage about the 91-92 nose emblem. i beleive they had them but i cant stake anything on it. hope this helps ya. just look for the spi code. if its there its a gta. if its not there its not a gta.

and by the way...running your vin number will not tell you that you have a gta. It will tell you that you have a ta but not gta. gta was a package option from the factory. The same as formula was a option for firebird. I have a formula, but running my vin will tell me that i have a firebird base. so......
Look at your RPO codes...run them in the database..it will tell you that the car was equipped with the gta package.
if not, then you have a transformed gta..maybe the previous owner got a hold of some parts? who knows.
In the thirdgens....manual trans were not installed into the 5.7 liter cars. why? because they believed it effected the way the car handled. or was that T-Tops? Oh well...I am sure someone will tell us why...good luck man

The 1991 and 1992 GTAs had all the emblems just like the earlier cars did, but the nose emblem is an adhesive-backed acrylic piece.... there is no mounting stud on it like the earlier years used. It is very lightweight and flexible.
Here are two views of each emblem style.... a 1987 Russet Metallic and a 1991 Dark Green Metallic:
All the other emblems (fender and sail panel) are the same fom 1987-1992. Hope this helps.
