Im looking to get my 83' Firebird looking nice this summer and am looking for paints or primers that will help keep it from rusting over again. I've also seen some primers that convert the surface rust into a hard primer coat and was just wondering if anyone has had some experience with this and has any reccomondations?

I have used this with great results The name of it is GEM Rust Killer.

What you do is break off any loose rust particles with a wire brush and and anything that isnt part of the original metal, put this stuff into an old spray bottle. spray it on and it converts the rust that is on the metal into an iron phosphate(which acts like a primer). which You can then Prime and paint over without any problems. I know it works great because I wire brushed my battery box, used this stuff, and primed and painted over it and its held up great.
