Re: Tinted Rear Tail-lights who's done it?
yeah i thought VHT and nightshade are the same thing? how do you like them? It doesnt look like you buffed them out or cleared them, did ya?
How about your lights? can you still see them good during the day and night?
did you use the stock bulbs?
Im having mine done professionally by someone that has his own transparant black candy mix and ppg clears them both with a spraygun....he told me they look like glass. I cant wait to see what they look like.
anyone else got some pictures?
whoops, i didnt see the vette lights...did you do them too? they shine a little more

Re: Tinted Rear Tail-lights who's done it?
BTW I did mine by myself, and let the paint dry in my cold basement. Not a good idea. It was so cold that the paint cracked on the turn signal grids, now I have to wetsand them and do another coat. Other than that they look great. Im using the stock bulbs and you can see right though them, especially at night.

Park lights, side markers and tail lights all done with VHT Nite-Shades and clear coated. Not as dark as some but suits me fine. The red/amber/white colors are still distinguishable and the reflectors on the corners are still visible in the daytime.

Re: Tinted Rear Tail-lights who's done it?
But how well can you see your brake lights in the daylight? That's why mine aren't any darker than they are (probably still illegal as are the darker ones). Your brake lights need to be seen to keep you from being rear ended.

Re: Tinted Rear Tail-lights who's done it?
ssean92 or Al Hasse.
I was going to do my parking lights/fog lights/ect today but I didnt have the time to get them out.
Plus i need some help. I unscrewed the main screw on the fog lights with the spring but I didnt know where else to remove screws from.
Also theres a black cover in my wheel wells preventing me from getting to the parking lights ect. Theres little screw tab type things to get it off, should these just be pryed off or what?
Any help on getting these lights off would be appreciated

Re: Tinted Rear Tail-lights who's done it?
to get to the front turn lights....its better to jack the car up so you have room...the two screw bolts on each lense are easy to get to but not real easy cause you got to work the socket on there...so if you jack it up you'll have more room to move around.
The front side turn singnals are easy from the top in the engine bay but yeah you'll need to work you arm down there and pop those clips off. If you cant get to it then you could also loosen the fender skins on the front part and get to them there....the skins are just held on by plastic push pins.
but i hope to get my rears back friday...and i'll take some pictures of them off and on the car.
with buying the sand paper and cans of Nightshade/VHT and clear...i just assumed pay someone to do it right for about the same cost.
The one thing i dont really like is when the lights are on...they look pinkish...which is kinda gay...but oh well cant do nothing about that. i guess?

Oh I gotcha, im just gonna have to work on this over the weekend. School/Work really eats up a lot of time
Yeah in the pictures they look kinda pinkish. In person they look bright red (mine at least).
Yeah nite shades is about $12 a can plus money for clear coats and waxes (if used), and scuff pads. I use the red scuff pad from pep boys which is about $4. Did both taillights and still had some left over.

VHT Nightshades and clear coat (I think it looks best with some clear over the top). :
* I did not do mine super dark, I wanted a "tinted" look, not a blacked out look. For comparison, you can see a set of stock lights next to them*

Re: Tinted Rear Tail-lights who's done it?
yeah now those look good! even the "tinted" look....
I went with "full black out" My car is white with 5% tint on the windows and clear side turn signals so i figured since there was no other color on my car but black or white they would look good blacked out.
so we'll see
on a side note: Blue, thats one rockin 91 you got...i just checked out your car domain. thats one hell of a sleeper....i bet it moves out pretty damn good!

Re: Tinted Rear Tail-lights who's done it?
I have tinted tails on my Titan but im leaving the TA stock.
Mainly because i dont want a cop to have any random reason to pull me over. There's enough illegal stuff on that car for him to impound it and thats not what im looking to do.
My truck was done professionally by the previous owner of the lights. When he was selling the truck, he told him i can have the tail lights. They are tinted, not blacked out. You can still see the reflectors in them when you shine light on them and there is no problem at all seeing my brake lights.

ok guys this process is so simple and cheap.. buy a pint of clear and a pint of black.. mix a little of black. i used a soda bottle cap to measure and pour about 3 cap fulls of black to about half a pint of clear.. then add your hardner and thinner to the mix.. start to spray. the more coat the darker the color.. be sure to prep the lights first.. use 600 wet then 1000 and finally 2000 wet..

Re: Tinted Rear Tail-lights who's done it?
I had someone tint mine for me...i didnt have the equipment to do it "the right way"
Chris!...yeah man, whats up!...im sure you know whats been up with my car...LOL thanks.....you can still barely see the color of the tails when the sun hits them the right way.
well?! the reason you havent seen my car in the last year around town is because the car has been in state impound for the last year and i just got it back recently......thank god!
hmmm!? ...ive seen others getting banned from other sites when trying to score without being a site sponsor...so id be careful.
if you do...make sure you get them cleared the right way and not some spray can clear....it looks so much better and like glass with the black..
yeah im sure it would be if some of us had the right equipment to do them with....which we all dont.....i did my third brake lights on both my cars and they came out fine being such a small area but i didnt want to attempt the tail lights.....with the cheap *** VHT way.

Re: Tinted Rear Tail-lights who's done it?
Now I've got a question for y'all. How are the cops responding to your tinted taillights/markers/fogs? I used VHT nightshade all the way around on mine, not using clear. I went pretty dark on my taillights and completly blacked out the rest, the only lights I didn't do were my headlights cause well I like to see and thirdgen lights aren't the best. But I was just wondering if the cops have hasseled u at all, before I used the nightshade I had covers on my taillights and I got pulled over twice for those and smoked liscence plate covers, come to find out that you aren't supposed to have clear liscence plate covers either because they take away the reflection of the plates.

Re: Tinted Rear Tail-lights who's done it?
i had covers a while back and didnt like them either.....they very very easily scratch and easily stolen and i didnt like the way they fit with the velcro.....and i just didnt like the way they looked and also dirt and crap gets under the covers.... So now im doing the "tint" way. If i get tired of them i'll just get me a spare set of others.

Re: Tinted Rear Tail-lights who's done it?
my issue with the tail light covers is they are smooth, and i dunno about you guys, but i love the grid. i like the three row ones way better than the old two row ones from earlier in the gen. im getting mine done someday. my buddy had his tinted on his IROC before he sold it and it looks sick on a black car.

Here's mine, painted with HOK black tinted intercoat and cleared with PPG Urethane clear. They look dark but the light shines through real good.......Frank
