I will be needing to remove the cover from my taillights and have been told to just be careful prying open the cover. But then I came across Klearz instructions on installation of their particular lens's.

There technique is to put the entire taillight housing into the OVEN!

But I just don't see how you can possibly do with WITHOUT melting the plastic that would touching the oven/tray surface?? I could understand if perhaps it was hanging in mid air in the oven but obviously it would have to actually lay on a hot surface...

i was going to throw mine in the oven, but they wouldnt fit.

I just got a screwdriver and pried the lenses off. Pretty easy. They just popped right out. Just make sure you remove the small metal clips around the perimeter.

I know people on ford ranger forums do it all the time, I dont really know the procedure though. I would try just prying them apart first like InfernalVortex said. If you dont think they will come off without cracking then maby try the oven.

i did it, put the whole t.l. assembly in the oven. set it for the lowest temp. you are just trying to get the sealant hot,so that it is soft again. keep a eye on it. youll be ok.

i used to have a civic, all the guys did this oven trick to the headlight housings. they'd paint the insides, remove the reflectors... all sorts of things. basically put the whole thing in the oven at like 170 ish up to like 200 for no more than 10 minutes, so more like 5. then take a butter knife, flat blade screwdriver... and pry the lens from the housing. put it back in the oven to bond it back when done, then reseal it with new silicone

Nope. Way overpriced, for a board that fits inside your stock housings.

I've pulled apart a few GTA lights & simply used a razor blade & flat blade screw driver, to open then up. Gentle prying & good use of the razor blade & they open right up. And pulling the metal clips off & plastic pins out.

I was wondering if it's possible to take a couple of Camaro taillights and change the panels around or something? I have a few sets with cracks in different places.
I'll have to try that someday.

You could cut the plastic lenses & plastic weld them back together, but I dunno how well the seams would turn out & be "invisible".

Probably not worth the trouble then. Could possibly use that flowable silicone or glass repair filler after they're attached at the edges?

If you're concerned about the tailights melting, set the oven on a low temp. Put whatever you've got on a cookie sheet with a rag underneath. That will help insulate most of the heat coming through the pan itself.

I did fog lights on my old honda once. I set the oven to just above minimum, 125 maybe, and had the lights sitting on that rag. Worked perfect. Just don't forget that they're in there, lol.

EDIT: I should word that better. Put a rag between the cookie sheet and whatever you're heating up.

Has anyone tried this on the parking lamps?

Edit: I just tried it. Even left it at 200 for about 8 mins. Seemed like everything was hot but the glue.

to do this with no chance of hurting the plastic, put two 2x4's inbetween the rack and the housing itself. did it to my civic's headlights once, worked awesome.
