need pics and info on 18" wheels inside>>>

hey, well its come time that im sick of my wheels and tires and having the stock stance on my 89 z. =) i already upgraded most of the suspension with biger sway bars, phr, lca, sfc, stb, etc etc etc lol i ordered my KYB shocks and struts already... and now all i need to do is decide on a spring kit, tires and wheels.

i am 100% set on getting 18" wheels all around and you cant change my mind :-D they just look too mean to pass... so i was thinking of this settup: 18x8 iroc wheels all around with 255/40 or 255/45 tires... and eibach sportlines... good? bad? i cant decide on a tire size or a spring set, i want little or no wheel gap... ive seen cntrvrsy's stance and its like perfect =)

anyway... please post pics of your thirdgen with 18" wheels and please include width of the rim, tire size, and how u lowered your car. thanx in advance

Tommy's in my Camaro club, you should check out his website for more pictures. He even has one with a close up of the front tire with the wheel sunk into the fender.

Here is his website:

www.iroczdesigns.com

He has 255/45 all the way around. To get the gap(or lack there of) he did some pretty extensive inner fender modifications as well as custom cut springs in the front and rear.

I'm setting my '87 IROC for these same wheels. I have done a bunch of suspension mods, global west springs and Koni adjustable shocks and struts, new bumpstops, subframe connectors, inner fender cutting to accomodate these large wheels. I want no gap in the front and a minor gap in the rear. When I ordered my wheels in May they only had the front offest wheel for my application. I know it has a different offset than the stock rear wheels but it has a more aggresive look to it. I was told they would fit so I'm not really concerned. With my Koni shocks in the rear I know the will be a gap so the tire shouldn't rub on the inner fender. I'm going to run 235 or 245 40 series in the front and 255 45 series tires in the rear.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Josh

If your want to run 255/45 in the front with sportline springs and don't plan on modifying the inner fenders, good luck. I don't think you can successfully do this and still get a small wheel to tire gap. The question in how stiff are the sportline springs? I'm running 600 lb springs in the front with a full coil taken out. If I wanted to run 255/45 tires I don't think I could without fender modification. I think if you run these springs you'll have to run smaller tires and have a larger wheelwell gap.

I hope this helps, Josh

Stl,
Josh is correct......you need a set of pretty stout front springs in order to handle the 18's, especially if you want to drop it like Josh and I have done.

I have 800lb springs in the front and 160lb in the rear. I totally modified the fenders so that i would not have any scraping. The front fender wells have a very sharp lining, that will cut the tire. Proper care must be taken to heat this mteal and bend it......warnings......takes time and patience!!!!!!

But in tht end.....with some good tough springs.....good quality shocks (Koni's Yellow), and modified wheel wells, this is what u get. Yes.....lot's of hard work and **** loads of oney...but this is how I have always imagined my IROC-Z to look.

ok, answer one question for me: u guys have a sick drop in the front on these 255/45 tires... is that drop more than 2" in the front? because i was thinking of using the belltech 2" drop spindles in the fron. is this a waste of money or should i just use springs that drop the car a lot and leave the stock spindles? if not if i use say 6 or 700 pound springs in the front and trial and error and cutting, and get it to drop nicely will that work? but im confused: if i cut the spring then reinstall it, how will i know how much the car dropped, because doesnt the spring take a while to settle in? i dont want to cut it to a perfect size, then a week later have it settle in like 1 inch lower than i wanted! i dont know, well, thanx for the help!

o, and you can find those 18" irocs at www.performancewheeloutlet.com or suntin like that for like $225 each polished, and i forget the price of chrome one thing that sucks in that they only come in 18x8, so you cant have them wider in the rear, but it doesnt matter too much to me...

265/35s in front and 285/35s out back. The fenders r right above the tires. Not quite as low as Mr.IrocZ's.

Car: too many ...
Do you guys think the fenders or inner wheelwells would need to be modified running 18x8 in front, 18x10 in back and eibach pro-kit 1" drop springs?
