White Maaco Paint Job
Anyone had a white maaco paint job? I am thinking about a repaint since my money just went towards my motor. Can maaco screw up a white paint job? Opinions? Thanks

Hey I am currently working at maaco and if your car is currently white, it is very hard to screw it up. If i were you, id go get some 320 grit and sand the whole car down (only horizontal and vertical stroker) so that the new paint will stick really good. The only real mess up can be is paint that has drip marks in it (but any halfway experienced painter doesnt get any runs) Try to get a good deal on the basecoat clearcoat!

I had a black macco paint job. Really brightened up my beat up 89. Looks really good for the price. Seems to get scratches really easy though. But it was worth it.

I don't think anybody is talking about teh 200$ paintjob. I'm going to take my car to Maaco but I'll be paying for the second best paint job, around 500-600$ cause I know the owner's son. I've seen the work that particular shop does and while not extraordinary its very good for the price.
Don't be afraid of Maaco, just don't go to any Maacos yo don't know about. Find somebody with a nice Maaco painjob and ask them which shop they went to, and try there. And always and I mean always do you own prepwork if you want the paint to be good. Maaco is infamous for for ridiculously bad prep work.

Yeah, I'm just need to look half way decent. It's going to be a daily driver, in the winter too, so i'd sh*t a brick if i paid $2000 for a paint job and saw a door ding a week later.
TO THE GUY WHO WORKS AT MAACO:
Can I sand my car to bare metal and let them prime and paint the car? And what is the average price on that? MY door jambs don't need repainted or anything. Only body work is where the front clip meets the hood. the plastic is a little out of alignment. Thanks

Hey they didn't do a bad job at all on his '72, but a guy i know had his old mustang painted there a month before he sold it and it was pretty crappy. But he got the cheapest one so he could sell it. Hard to sell a primered '85 4 cyl mustang after all.

my car currently has autozone spaycan primer on it and i would rather strip it all off with that chemical stripper and let maaco prime and paint. Would that be a big risk?

I have a $12K paint job on my '86 Camaro show car, and am planning on having Maaco paint my new '88 IROC hugger orange. This is my new daily driver. I'm going to do all the prep work including body work, priming, and masking. I could spray it myself but don't have a booth, don't want to rent one, and don't want to spend big bucks on a paint job at a restoration shop when it is going to get dings and scratches in it. Each type of paint job has its place. And yes, I going to have them do a bccc paintjob, not the $200 special.

I once had a car painted at macco and for the price it has held up very well!!! Do any body work and all the prep work yourself!!! Just take care of it and the new paint job will hold up well!!! I'm not saying they do the best job but they do a good job for the price u pay!!!

I have heard they are not to bad of painters, but that they won't do any prep work to your car. So if you are going to them make sure you have done all of your body prep, the amount and qaulity of body prep will count for 80% of your "after painting is done" looks. good prep = good paint results, but keep in mind that perfect body work still won't save bad paint job.

It is possible to have a decent paint job from Maaco or Earl Scheibs, but you have to do ALL of the prep work. Sometimes they will even paint over dirt and ****. I painted my car in my driveway with my compressor and spraygun, and its nowhere near perfect, but it cost me about $110! Sooner or later I will repaint it myself and put more layers of lacquer on it, or just pay for a BC/CC job.

Yes you can sand it down to the bare metal, but i wouldnt waste your time, if you sand your old paint down (make sure to get all the clearcoat off) it almost acts as primer.... i would spend about $600 and MAKE SURE TO GET BASECOAT/CLEARCOAT (alot of times they use this syntheitc ...., looks good but i dont know how long it will last) and to ONEFINE***! no i did not get it painted at maaco... and when i do get it painted a guy there that is BAD *** at painting and bodywork is going to do a show quality one for $600 (already have paint and clearcoat though) and a perfect body IF ANYONE LIVES IN THE CINCINNATI OHIO area i know a couple people who paint cars on the side (one does show cars, a few others do cheap, but good quality jobs)

Getting your car pinted at maaco is like buying the pep boys special tires, 4 for $99. You can act like they are nice all you want, but everyone you show them to knows the real truth behind them. They will last or 10,000 miles and then blow up on you. Dont cut corners and have a half a$$ed body shop like maaco paint your car. Take it to a nice body shop and have it done right.

Hey If you dont have the money and you are tired of your car looking like crap. Then take it to macco and have it done. At least it will look respectable for a little while and you dont have to be ashamed to drive it. I know where your coming from man. i didnt have a lot of cash and my car looked like ****. I went to maacoo and bought there best paint job for 600 bucks. I still dont regret doing it. Sure macco aint the best paint service but it made my car look 10 times better. But I was a little scared when they made me sign a waiver saying the paint job will not be perfect. But still its cheap and looks better than it used to. Also My camaro is a peice of junk. If I bought a new good paint job that would have cost more than the value of the whole car. So do maacco.

I got a white Maaco paingjob. Doesn't look half bad. And to all you guys that sit here and tell people NOT to do it....back off. I did it because I hated looking like trash with a black fender, bumper, and headlight cover. I only paid 750 for the car....and I wasn't about to spend 1500 on a paintjob....until I get EVERYTHING the way I want it. Everyone complements my job, and I've had very few problems with it.

Personally I'd rather have a $200 low quality new paintjob than an original, scratched, cracked, and faded paintjob. At least till I can afford the $6000 it will take to do a show quality job. Of course after that I'd be afraid to drive it anywhere.

Paint doesn't mean anything unless the body is straight. You can pay all the money you want for someone to paint your car, but if it still waves at you then it's all wasted money.

Why spend alot of money for a paint job on a daily driver and take the chance on it getting dinged or scratched somewhere. If it is strictly a show car that you only take to shows then that's different, but you're still taking a chance even then.As long as the prepwork is done well it will look good.Just get their top paintjob.

I understand that not everyone wants to spend $2000 to $6000 for a paint job. Especially because it would be difficult to recover that investment with the current market prices for our vehicles. I am not a paint or body guy, but I am a person who is very particular about the appearance of his vehicles. The idea of repainting a car scares me. Once that paint is on, it on. In a couple of years if you decide you are not happy with it and want to have it redone it will cost you bigger money. You can't put new paint on top of a bad paint job. You will likely have to have the paint stripped and then build up from bare metal.
The way I see it, you may want to take the vehicle to a detailer and have them try to bring the paint back. If the condition of the finish it too bad for them to work with, I suppect you will have a good amount of prep work required.
Just for fun, take it to a professional body shop and ask them what they would do for prep. You can't just sand a car and paint it and have it look O.K.
