Projector retrofit inside(w/pics)
If this belongs in the "fabrication" topic.Mods please move, if needed.Anyway,I started with escalade/jag/vette projectors. These are from a jag.Valeo brand, single xenon, 2.5dia,6 3/4 long,D1s style lamps.I taped over the side vents with some chrome duct tape.
Next, ebay "fake" projector 4656 headlamps. Most of it wont be used.
Cut back half for projector retrofit.Flanges glassed on.Made from a plain ol cardboard box.Cut to fit headlamp opening.Notice the two black lines/markers on the sides of the corrugated piece. These match the cutoff.Make them level on the headlamps for proper alignment of the projector.
Check for fitment issues
More to come.Should be done in a day or two

Re: Projector retrofit inside(w/pics)
Thanks, I wont have to cut anything on the car.At most i may need to enlarge the hole on the headlight bucket to accommodate the projectors.
Buckets cut to fit projectors.

Will that fiberglass be able to withstand the heat from the projectors?

Re: Projector retrofit inside(w/pics)
I used a x-acto knife to cut the adhesive. From both out & inside the housing.

Very cool! I bought the same lights for my car.I had to return a set because the brackets that hold the projector on had popped off.

Looks great! I might have to try this, unless you're willing to sell some already done.

Where did you pick up the projectors and the housings up for so cheap? And was that including the bulbs? What did you do about the ballasts and the wiring?

Re: Projector retrofit inside(w/pics)
These looks really good, this is actually something I want to do someday.
Which cheapy projector housings did you use?
I've seen a few on ebay, did yours have the city light in it?
I don't really want it, and not sure if after I cut out the hole for the projector if it will still be there or not.
I would rather just get a housing that doesn't have them to start with.
could you send me a link to the ones you bought?
Thanks

These are the lamps. His prices have gone up a bit. They have the city light, but that portion is eliminated when cutting the lamp for the projector mod.

Re: Projector retrofit inside(w/pics)
For ebay, just go to "lighting & lamps" category. The type "projectors" in the search bar.You will get OEM projectors in the results. The other methods you will see TONS of aftermarket ****, plus hundreds of the fakes as well.

Re: Projector retrofit inside(w/pics)
Good work on the fab. Always a fan of people custom making things they want when they're not available, or at least not at a good price.
...that being said though, and I know I'm in the minority, but I've felt no matter how much technology and R and D goes into it light, it's still just that. LIGHT. ...and short of blinding oncoming traffic, and being able to see ALL THE WAY TO YOUR DESTINATION.... ...there's no real need for "better" light.
Like I said, I know my opinion is in the minority, and it's just that, an opinion. Either way, nice work.

Re: Projector retrofit inside(w/pics)
If your blinding traffic its more likely your lamps are NOT aimed properly.Projectors, well project light in the proper place. That combined with proper aiming of the headlights is better for everyone. No need to be driving around blinding oncoming traffic & thats my opinion!.

Properly aimed HID projectors, is such an improvement over halogen sealed beam, there is no comparison really.
Like 1le said, if you're blinding other drivers, then they are not aimed properly. Quality projectors will have a cutoff, which keeps most of the light on the ground and out of the eyes of oncoming traffic. Some even have levelers built in too.

Like I said though, it's all good and I admire the work. The mere fact that I even HAVE my Iroc is an exercise in desire, not necessity, so far be it for me to begrudge anyone for doing anything they want to do!!!
