clearcoat coming off........

Does anyone know how to kind of cover this up so it doesn't look so bad? Like a car polish or something.

I know how you feel!!
Before we got our car painted the clear coat on the trunk was peeling like crazy!
Yes trunk, it's a convertible.

The only temp fix I thought of to even things out in that area was taking some sandpaper and smoothing out the area. It looked alot better than the peeling. Just make sure you don't sandpaper all the way down to the metal.

The other temp fix that I tried to no avail.....
I sanded down a smaller area where the clear coat was peeling and then got a can of clear spray paint and did some touch ups.
Don't expect great results though.
But it did look better than the peeling and the sanded area on the trunk.
From a distance of about a half mile you could not tell any difference at all.

Again these are the things I tried before we got ours painted.
At this point you paint job is already shot so you really have nothing to lose.
Just keep the repairs simple and un-costly so you can save up for a paint job.

125,000 miles and still going strong.
Only minor mods planned for the near future.
Like headers, flowmaster exhaust, some ignition mods, K&N airfilter, Perhaps a chip if needed.
Waiting for the motor to blow up so I can install a ZZ4 crate motor. Let's just hope it don't blow up too soon.

Yeah my paint is peeling on the hood and the place the spoiler sits on! I have found an all right way of doing it, I just sprayed armor all on it. I don't know if it's bad for the paint or what but it looks a lot better than it is!

Oh yeah, sunbitz. I see in your sig that your car is painted mystic teal. That sounds like such a cool name. Do you have any pics? Is that like the color that changes colors in different lighting?

Elevario....

Yup, you got it exactly right.
I do have pictures but they don't do the paint any justice at all. I have a digital camera and all the pictures come out like a seafoam green type of color. Really strange!
I've tried to take pictures at all different times of the day and no change.

I'll have to get some pics of it on a webpage even if they do look like crap.
We picked the car up at night and the painter swore up and down that the car was painted green. Under outdoor night lights it looks nearly like a midnight blue with flakes. The car changes colors depending on the time of day and if it's cloudy or not. I do know there is alot of pearl mixed into the paint which supposedly gives it this affect.

We've had many compliments on the paint, and several people have came back and said "I thought it was green??"

Frankly I'm not sure if the paint is actually called Mystic Teal, but that's what the guy at the bodyshop told me. It's PPG paint and they might have altered the name from the GM color name. I've not seen a Mystic Teal from GM only something like Dark Teal Bright Blue or something like that. I've heard it called up to 3 different names at this point.

When I get some pics up I'll make a post one here for everyone to check it out. I'm still in restore mode and don't feel the car is worth showing off at this point. Still have a wee bit of work to do on it.

Hey man, that sounds really cool! My car is polo green and I love the color of it. At night it looks black and in day it's dark metallic green! Too bad it's starting to look pretty bad now.....
