Am I going rice!?

Here's the deal. I saw this body kit and fell in love. Say what you will, call me a traitor, whatever. Here's my problem, almost everything comes off and is replaced by fiberglass. This includes the hood, fenders, bumpercover, door panels, etc. You name it. I've never done any body work before, should I attempt this? I do have all the time in the world. I'm afraid that I won't line something up right and I will crack this $6,000 kit. What do you guys think? www.k1-styling.sk/

Personally, I think it looks cool. You would not see another car like yours. It matters if YOU like it. $6K is a lot of dough. I don't know about body-work either.

if you're careful and have help with it, you probably won't have much of a problem. just make sure you have someone help with big portions of the project.

I've never seen one in person, but I have heard of someone who did (on this board). He said it looked like crap, but it was because the install was half-assed. Installation is everything on this body kit stuff. The other day I saw a Honda with a body kit on it that was installed poorly, and it looked like crap, but you can see a similar car with the same kit that was installed professionaly on it, and it looks real sharp. Just make sure to take the price of installation into account when you buy the thing, you dont want it laying around for months and not have it installed.

If you never tried body work before, forget about it!! The rear quarters are bonded on and require body filler and or fiberglass to fill in the seams. Start by practicing on you buddies ground effects, see if you can make the seams disappear. Then you can then shell out the several thousand it is going to cost you for the kit.

thats not really rice. I think it looks cool, but I don't really like the idea of changing the overall look of the car. That kit totally makes it look different. And that makes you think "is that a... wait what is that?? Nah can't be, its a what??"

Nothign wrogn with making the car look bad *** and beefing it up, just don't make it undisqisable (ahh, poor spelling).

Oney Eyed Jack hasnt shown up yet on the rice topic?

Back to the topic. I reallly love that kit, I almost bought it like a month ago, but my car is a daily driver and it would take to long to do, if your gonna do it yourself and have no experience forget about it, or try and find a reputable body shop that does GREAT work and see how bad they will rape you to do it, Im sure it will be alot but if you have the money it'll probobly be done rite, if not you have someone else to blame

It's just a phase you're going through. Keep your car clean. You'll get over it and you'll be glad you didn't ruin it. I've gone through many phases in my life and believe me I'm glad I didn't have the money to trash my car with half the ideas I had.

i think the kit looks bad a$$, turn your f body into a ferrari. unless you're an expert autobody guy, you shouldn't dare do it yourself. a body shop will severely rape you though, they'll probably take your house to do that. don't forget the 10 grand you gotta dump into the engine to make it perform as well as it looks.

Okay, so I guess I'll be checking body shops. I don't want to spend six grand just to make it look worse. Then again, I'm guessing that body shops will probably want around 5 or 6 grand to put it on. F that! Thanks everyone for the responses. I'll let you know if I can afford this stuff, being the broke a$$ college student that I am!

i really hate to say this for i can predict massive quantities of backlash, but I AGREE with one eyed jack............IF YOU WANT A JAPONEZE LOOKING CAR, BUY A JAPANOZE CAR.........some say that making your car look fast when its not is "rice" well this is making your car look Japoneze when its not, so whats the word for this???? ULTRA-RICE!

Japoneze? You think that looks Jap? No friggin way, that's looks Italian to me, but hey, that's my opinion I could be wrong.

Want to do this right? Look through your paper until you find a 3rd gen that has a trashed body, trashed interior but STRONG engine/tranny. Do the kit to that one, and keep your other car, "clean."

Well, its actually spelled Japanese ehhehe. The Evo kit reminds me of european styling. Most of the guys with imports are going for a european touring look ... audis, bmws, mercedes, subarus with insane bodykits, slammed to the ground, bigger wheels, and cool looking wings. So I can see why people would think that bodykit looks japanese.

But anyway, on the topic of "if you want a japanese looking car, buy a japanese looking car" I have to admit that these days (95+) I like the style and looks of imports more than I do american cars. I got respect for older musclecars (pre 80's) and they have their own style that is cool, but all that stuff was cool before I was even born. By the time I was even old enough to drive/own a car (1995), american cars just being produced (like the newer style camaro) didnt excite me when I looked at them ... they did excite me when I floored it however. The only american cars that I think look good without going to a straight musclecar look are all from the 90's ... Camaros up to 92 and Impallas up to 96. And did I mention I like to floor it with a v8?? hehe. Import performance just dosnt do it for me. I know imports can go fast after soemone invests 10 grand into it, but its just not the same as a badass v8. So what are those of us that are new to the game supposed to do when we like the power, sound, and reliability of american engines but the style and look of the newer import community? Try to combine the two!!! And this kit is the answer. Sorry if you guys dont like the idea of someone completely changing the look of 'your' car, but please dont take it personally. By changing the look of a thirdgen, Im not trying to say I dont like the way it looks. In fact its the complete opposite. Believe me, If I didnt like 3rd gen camaros then I wouldn't already own one and be planning to buy another. You know in the truck modifying community, people give eachother props when they do a conversion at the level of the Evo kit. When someone converts the front of their 1990 chevy truck to a 99-2000 cadillac escalade front end, other people say 'Hey thats nice!'. When someone converts the front of their 95 ford f150 truck to a 99 lincon navigator front end, people go 'wow cool!!' I wish everyone had that kind of open-mindedness.

I like certain Japanese cars so much, I bought one! If anybody beats my rice on the street (doubtful), I will just go home and bring out the T/A. I like any car as long as it is fast. Heck, I might even buy a fast FWD car just to embarrass anybody I smoke...

Do any of you remember a great man by the name of Henry "Smokey" Yunick. I think this man is a legend to every Chevy owner, and if you dont know who he is you should read about him. He was a man that changed everything for chevy. He made the mustang drivers scared and everybody else mortified.
He would do anything to make his car faster, but he never messed with the design. If he knew what people these days were doing to their cars he would turn over in his grave. If you are going to modify it, dont change it to much in the name of a great man, dont make the camaros like all of the "other cars" nowadays. Please dont make the camaros like teh japanese cars of today.they are made to be supercars.

RICE is defined as making your car look like something its not. Therefore this would be RICE. It also does look asian but thats beside the point.

rice is making your IMPORT look fast when its not. but its not all about looks, its also about attitude. people who put intake and exhaust on a 1.8ltr and thinks its gonna smoke a v8. thats rice. people who put bodykits on their import so it looks cool but dont rev v8's and know a v8 will beat them in a race ... thats NOT rice, its called a car enthusiast. not everyone modifies their car to be fast, some people enjoy the show aspect more. according to your definition, people who convert the front of their 88-98 chevy 1500 truck to a 2000 cadillac escalade front end would be rice. so dont you think it would be ignorant to call someone 'rice' because they did a mod nobody has ever done before? do you really want every car on the road to look the same? i think you guys should be HAPPY .. yes HAPPY that more people are modding their 3rd gen camaro and supporting the 3rd gen camaro instead of trying to scare them away. yeah they might have different priorities than you, but that dosnt make them RICE. hey you know what, im not even gonna waste any more time on this. believe whatever you want. if you wanna call everyone rice then go ahead. sorry for wasting everyones time.

Rice is any car that someone has added mods that make it LOOK faster which actually has no affect on the car. Putting a body kit on a car for it to look nice is one thing but puttin somethin on your car to make it look faster is jut plain rice. Putting a Ferrari body kit is obviously a mod u are putting on to make it LOOK faster when it is not making it any faster therefor yes it would be rice
