Is there a cheap HID conversion kit that is pretty much just plug and play for my firebird? I need it to have low and high in the same bulb (not sure if TURE HIDs will have low and high). Im gonna be doing completely custom lazy/sleepy eye headlights, just not sure which kit to go with. Thanks in advance!

 

im not sure.. firebirds lights are a little more difficult to change over to hid's because they move....

and true hid's are expensive.. i bought a kit for $150.. just for two lights and the conversion kit the housings were not included...

for the high and low beam they come but the low beam is hid and the high is a halogen... but the ones i got there fixed beam which means the high and low beam is the same but there angled different when you switch over to high beam. there angled up

the imitation bulbs are pretty cheap but they may cause problems seeing there really high wattages... my freind put them in his thunderbird and they exploded on him and the light housing moved outwards.

Not sure about firebirds but when I did the headlights in the Camaro I had to buy new housings since they were sealed beams (you can find them anywhere on ebay) After that it is very simple, just find a kit that is intened for the same bulb set up that you already had (H4). Oh, you also have the option of buying a kit that is both high/low in one bulb.

Not all of them are. The ones I have are a xenon low and a halogen high.

 

If the bulb is both hi and low beam HID, than they are called bi xenon bulbs. If your bulb is HID low and halogen hi, then they are not bi xenon bulbs.

 

Well im going to be using 4th gen 93-97 camaro headlights since im doing the lazy eye thing, and from what i understand they are also sealed beams like ours but i can twist the bulb out of the housing and silicon a new bulb in and it works great. I know there are some super cheap hid conversion kits on ebay and if needed i could go to the parts store and get better bulbs.... but i was just wondering if there are any kits that plug directly into my harness or if i will have to wire them. Wiring no big deal... im just curious. Thanks

 

For the most part you will have to always do some wiring with HID conversion. I haven't seen any kits yet that are plug and play.

I've got about $400.00 in my HID setup on my Trans Am....headlights and foglights..

 

my 89 trans am has HIDs. I love them ive had HIDs on my car since i started driving.

I just bought the diamond cut lamps i beleive they are 4x6 and got a set of hi/low HIDs H4??? i think they were. mine were 200 plus the lamps, you just plug and play and then grown one wire and run one to +12v.

 

correct bi-xenon: the bulb has both hi and low beam in HID

I went with Hella H4 housing 4x6 (H6054=H4) for my HID set up.

They do make plug and play harness for converting the stock Camaro harness to H4.

the Firebirds require no hacking of the factory harness they are just plug and play

 

Im not an expert, but from what ive read the problem with bi-xenons is they dont work exactly as intended.Since the bi-xenon has a solenoid (built in) activated hi-beam & the shield is fix in place.What you really need is the (cut-off)shield that flips down(& out of the way).To give you a true hi beam.Ive only seen these in projector lamps.These have the solenoid on the projector itself.Which flips the cut off shield down when the hi-beam switch is applied.Allowing all the light out.When the shield is up(lo-beam)the upper portion of the beam is blocked.Some of these utilize a 9005 bulb.Some projectors(dual systems, 2 lo & 2 hi's) have the cut off shield fixed(built in)to the projector housing.Since the other projector(hi) would have no cut off shield at all.I believe 4th gen f-bodys use 9005 lamps(correct me if Im wrong though).To take full advantage of your HIDs though.Projectors are best, since they were desined for HID system in mind.Single projectors have a solenoid activated cut off shield for the hi beam.Dual projector systems use a fixed shield.The bi-xenon HID sort of defeats the hi-heam because the sheild is always in the way.Even when the solenoid is activated.Also 3rd gen style lamps with their refractive lenses disperse the HID light too much.What you really need are clear see thru lenses(at the very least)with projector to take full advantage of the HID light.Even my xenarc system didnt take full advantage of the HID lamps.With nothing more than a recent swap to projectors.The difference is night & day.If the 4th gen camaro headlights are 9005(hi)9006(lo)style.You could just buy an HID kit that comes with that type lamps & install them on the fourth gen lamps.That be the cheapest way to convert.I believe there is also a 9007(hi & lo) HID lamp you could use as well, but as mentioned above its not a true HID.I believe the hi beam is incandescent.
