BAD TINT JOB! FUNNY STORY!!

So i find this place that will tint my rear window for 60$. Ok, i take it in and the guy starts to work on it. About half way thru i notice theres tint missing on both sides right after the defroster metal piece that runs along the side of the window on each side!! Im like WTF dude, why is it missing tint? He's telling me that on all Camaros with defrost rear windows they only go up to where the metal bar starts! I wanted to laugh and beat his A** at the same time. I told him to cut some pieces of tint and fill those spaces right away. He seemed pissed but he did it anyway! Has anyone ever heard of this before! I mean i know some places take the window defroster stuff off before they tint right? So even after he did that I'm still not happy with his work at all. But over all just the fact that its tinted now it looks really awesome. Wish i done it sooner,, the car looks alot better.

Just added pics. As u can see basically where i drew is where the tint was missing. Again it looked freekin SILLY!!

One of my friends is always telling me that you can't tint glass with a defroster on it. I think that is the dumbest idea I have ever heard. He says it will cause the glass to shatter when it heats up. I don't know what he's smokin but I've never had a problem with the defroster on my tinted 88.

Re: BAD TINT JOB! FUNNY STORY!!

Cant tint over defroster??? Defroster turning the tint foggy???

Haha... I had an 89 blazer for MANY years with a rear defroster. Since I was in high school. Used the defroster 1000's of times during the cold months in PA. Never bubbled, never fogged, never shattered the glass <--haha.... The key is getting someone that actually knows how to tint...and not using cheap crappy tint helps too.

Also..Ive seen lots of thirdgens with the tint not going on the other side of the defroster vents. Ive been holding off on getting my rear window done because Ide like to find a defrosterless hatch glass. I dont drive it when its super cold, so I never really use it. Plus I want to delete my third brake light thats on the glass also..so it'll work nice if I can find one. Makes tinting much easier, and it looks better IMO.

They dont usually like to tint over the little dots...or the other black decorative lines on glass. I usually spray paint those areas....which would include the little space on the outside of the defroster lines. Its not like you gotta see through that little space... I would have just painted it up.

Re: BAD TINT JOB! FUNNY STORY!!

The tint that someone did on my T/A was(is) like that, not past the defoger vents. It's also goen completely purple. I removed it off the side windows last weekend, this weekend i am gunna do the rear window.

I had the 4th gen tinted and they did a great job, covering the entire window, it's been about a year now - plenty of defogger use and it hasn't bubbled, or discolored, or shattered the window, lol.

Re: BAD TINT JOB! FUNNY STORY!!

Wow! I paid like 200 to have the entire car done....It was the 4th gen though. The other thing I noticed is that the defroster line on the third gen is much thicker than those on the 4th gen.....I am pretty sure on the 4th gen they just tinted over the defrosters because the line was thin enough for them to do so.

Re: BAD TINT JOB! FUNNY STORY!!

I'm in Lewisville, Tx and I just had my 92 done for $150, 5% on the rear and 15% on the sides. Guy did a badass job, he had to use 4 pieces on the rear though, 1 on the lower section, 1 on the upper, and 2 small pieces for on the other sides of the defroster tabs. He said he just couldn't actually tint over the actual metal part. As soon as it stops raining I will get some before and after pics up. This guy comes to you to tint, so if you are in my area and want his info just let me know.

Re: BAD TINT JOB! FUNNY STORY!!

5% on back 15% on fronts. no good back pics will have to take some. this is the good metal tent it will never turn purple are fade and it doesnt mess with cell phone reception etc.

You didn't go to a good shop then. I've never had to get my rear glass tinted in less that 1 piece.

Not saying it is easy, but entirely possible to do.

Re: BAD TINT JOB! FUNNY STORY!!

Yeah my shop does them with one piece. Im sure they have to use a heat gun on it to get it to stretch easy. Then the glue holds it once its squeegied out.

As for safety...My jeep came from the factory with about 20% on all the rear windows. They arent very good for backing up at night...but not terrible. You should know whats behind you anyway, and use your other mirrors. But other than a backing up situation, there is no safety issue. Once you are moving forward, whats behind you doesnt really matter. You still see headlights. In fact...I like the dark tint at night. Then headlights from trucks and SUVs dont blind you as much. So...I guess that is actually a safety feature right? Less distraction from other cars. Haha with as flat as our rear glass lays, its not exactly great to see out of anyway. haha

Re: BAD TINT JOB! FUNNY STORY!!

ya my rear was a one piece job

as far as the night you cant really see much besides headlights as far as backing up it doesnt bother me my uncle started me off driving a old ford work truck that had no back window so i had to do it all by mirrors.
