Odd question, but what color would powder coat your transmission?
I just picked up my T56, and Im wanting to tear it down and upgrade it a little. So in the meantime, I was thinking about powder coating the case and bellhousing. I did my T5 in Xtreme Chrome which turned out pretty nice, but what about doing like a candy blue over the chrome? I was originally going to do it either in the Xtreme Chrome, or just do it black. I know this is OCD to the max, but Im curious what yall would want yours to be if you had the option.
Here's the powder over polished aluminum, basically the same reflectiveness as the chrome powder:

And here's a pic of my engine bay. I haven't painted the car yet, but I went ahead and painted the bay so you can get an idea of how close the color matching would be.

Re: Odd question, but what color would powder coat your transmission?
Yeah, I am kind of OCD about stuff like that too. Just a couple of months ago, I had a bad wheel bearing on my truck, and the project of changing that turned into going ahead and replacing the one on the other side also, replacing all of the seals on that axle, changing the fluid, taking a wire wheel to every chassis component, the entire frame, brake calipers, drive shaft, etc. (front to back) and painting everything underneath there.
But, to the original question, I have actually thought to myself before that if I ever did have transmission problems, and had to pull it, that I would paint it with the Dupli-Color Aluminum colored engine paint before I put it back in. So, if I were to powder coat it, I would probably also go with an aluminum looking color.

I pulled the guts out of my T56, so I should be able to start sand blasting it tomorrow or sometime next week. Then Im at least going to lay down the chrome powder and go from there. Not sure if I want to do the candy blue, might be too much. But the chrome looked killer on my T5

Re: Odd question, but what color would powder coat your transmission?
no, I never got that far About 2 weeks after I coated it, we were replacing the 3-4 synchro and in the process broke the 1-2. So I dont have any install pics, but Im supposed to be getting the T5 back from my trans guy tomorrow.
The T5 though doesn't look like chrome though, because I was trying out a clear coat powder and it dulled the hell out of it. It looks more like a bright semi-polished aluminum, but no where near what it was before the clear. Ill try and get pics of the T5 with clear and the T56 with just the chrome so you can see the difference.

OCD, and because I have the means, the materials, the time, the patience, and I want every part of the car to have a certain touch to it. I already had to pull the trans apart to inspect it, I still have 2lbs of chrome powder laying around, I just finished converting a double oven into a single oven, and Im not sinking a few hundred dollars into rebuilding it only to throw it all back together inside an oxidized and nasty looking case.
It's just like when you rebuild a motor, alot of people will paint the block. Honestly, you usually cannot see the block especially if you still have the AIR, HVAC, and all that other crap still installed. But it's still nice to know that if someone does see it, it's not just "there", it's "there", but they will definitely take notice.
Plus I'd love to take the car to the exhaust shop or whatever and have them say "damn, nice looking trans, who did that?" Give em my business card and possibly get some new clients

My car is red. I painted the case and extension housing red and the front plate black when I rebuilt it awhile ago.
Only real picture I have of it.

I would say black or chrome. On a side not the piece you made to cover the area around the hood latch looks really good. Any chance to see a picture of it if you ever remove it, what material and how did you mount it I don't see any screws around the edge like is a stock piece.

Ive seen one in Black, and it looks BAD ***! I vote black... I dont havea pic of it, cuz i only saw it online for sale. It looks good with all the silver lines you have goin to it.
Also, paint the bell housing the same colour as your engine. Whatever that happens to be.

Got mine done today. For now Im using Rosey's Xtreme Chrome. Turned out pretty nice, tell me what ya think.
The bellhousing has only been sandblasted. You can really see the before and after in the pic.

That really looks good, it's not nearly as reflective as I'd imagined it would be. That looks like polished aluminium.

Looks sick. I'm going to have to settle for just painting mine since it's already been rebuilt. Wish I had time to powered coat it before hand.
