Aluminum wheel haze?

Hey guys,

I have aluminum wheels off a '78 corvette pace car which are beginning to show age, (pitting, a little corrosion etc). I normally wash them with Eagle one aluminum wash, but it didn't get the brake dust out of the tiny pits in the wheel, so i tried some Eagle One Nev'r Dull wadding polish and was pretty happy with the results, it took the dust out, but now it seems to have left a hazy finish. Is this normal, i followed all the instructions and buffed them pretty decently. Anyone have experience with this product?

Can you post a pic of the wheel? It might help in what course to take. If the wheels are older and somewhat collectible it might pay to do some extra labor and buff and polish the aluminum. The pits will have to be removed and the proper compound steps followed.

Otherwise it is probably a chemical reaction to the nev'r dull pads. Aluminum is a very weird metal. I would now try some other product starting with a straight carnabu wax and failing to give you the look you want convert to an aluminum polish like Mothers, Eagle One, or Autosol.

Unfortunatly,, if you have pitting,, you have to buff like mad to get all the compound out. I've used the Never Dull b 4 and it is great for regular easy cleaning.

If the wheels are worth saving, have them glass bead blasted, polish them out then have them clear coated. Eastwood sells a great wheel clear coat,, quotably gaurenteed to never yellow, I've never used it but, most everything Eastwood sells is close to top notch.
