Tremclad-Rustoleum

Hi, i'm new to third gen, i have a 1990 rs 305 700r4 i picked it up for 1200 cdn, It had some body rust nothing some bondo and spot putty couldn't take care of, any way when the choice came to paint i had 3 options... expensive paintjob with good quality $1000+, cheap paint job with low quality $300+, do it myself $280+ with unknown outcome lol, or spend the money for foam rollers and 2 cans of tremclad rust proofing paint (dark blue) and i guess by the name of this thread u have guessed wich method i chose, Currently i have the hood fenders and front clip done in this paint. I am going to post pics in the next few days, as well as sand and paint the rest of the car with tremclad, i was wondering if anyone has done this to a 3rd gen b4 or any other car besides the orange charger we have probably all seen, also any tips would be a great help.

Re: Tremclad-Rustoleum

I'm currently doing this with my 86 camaro, was white and black now its going to all semi-gloss black. I did a lot of research on this method and lets just say it seemed a lot easier in text than what it really is, least from what I'm experiencing so far. So far I've put down 4 coats, wet sanded between the two and going to wet sand again tomorrow and hopefully lay down another 2 coats. I've experienced a few runs and roller marks, hopefully after all the coats and wet sanding I won't have as many, I'll post some pics also then. By the way this is my first car doing any type of painting or body work on, so if it comes out looking better than what it started I'll be happy lol.

Re: Tremclad-Rustoleum

Yep, I did it on my car with good results. But, the roller method didn't work for me so I sprayed it.

Here's how mine turned out:

Re: Tremclad-Rustoleum

I did mine in rustoleum about a year ago. I rolled mine on and I am very happy with the results. Everyone I show my car to is amazed. No complaints here.

Re: Tremclad-Rustoleum

Looks like you need a light wetsand and then hit it with a buffer and some good polish..........and it should shine like a mirror!
