Had to change name, but not car.. (HELP MY WHEELS)

I got rid of AOL, so now I cannot log on under my old name GOFASTER. So, new name, same car, new question. I used oven cleaner on my wheels, and it fu@ked them up BIG TIME. They look glazed over like the oven cleaner just killed the clear coat. I tryed to fix it but no luck, what can I do?

Car: 1997 Jeep Wrangler
Engine: 4.0L
Transmission: 5 speed
Axle/Gears: 8.8 rear, 4.56 gears, 4:1 transfer
Strip them and re-finish or leave bare.
Use "aircraft stripper" from any auto parts store, it comes in a spray can. Or stop by Home Depot, they have it in quart size bottles.

John, your saying just spray this "striper" on the wheels and rinse? If so I am going to the parts store now.

Aircraft stripper will strip the wheels down to bare metal. Then you can re-finish them or leave them bare. Several guys on this board were stripping them and then polishing them to a shine. It's a time-consuming process, but the results are great. Try to find some of the posts on this topic. I believe yellowiroc was in the process of polishing his wheels.

What will happen if I just stirp it and not polish it? Will it look bad? Any worse than now?

Stripper or no stripper it is a time consuming and messy process. The polishing part is the fun part. It would be pointless to strip them and not polish them.

I used the aircraft stripper on my wheels and it didn't even phase the clearcoat....this is what I resorted to.....don't laugh.
