What is this Camaro worth?
A friend of mine is selling his 86 Camaro Spt. Cpe. I think he is asking too low at $1500. It has a 305, 4BBL, with the computer, original carb. and distributor removed. It has a carb. and dist. from a 1980 non-computer Z28. It has 137K miles. It was painted black about 3 years ago. The only problems I know of are the gas gauge, volt gauge, and oil pressure guages do not work, probably because of no computer but who knows. The black seats are faded like most. I think it is in pretty good condition. Are these cars really worth this little? I would like to think I could get more than that for mine. Here is a picture of his. What do you think he should be asking and expecting to get? Thanks

Based on the description you gave on his car, I'd say that the pricing is in line with what the cars' worth. It isn't low mileage, the interior is faded, engine has been modified, and it's a sport coupe. They aren't worth much to begin with.

the gauges I'm guessing are due to the cluster, I had those gauges on one cluster go out because a screw scratched through one of the copper lines, have him get a replacement for it and that'll help up the price. when things like gauges are out that drops peoples confidence in the quality of the car. He could always clena it up real nice, that helps. With that he could probably get it up over the $2000 mark. I got my 86 for $3000 2 years ago, but it had a rebuilt engine & tranny with only 1800 miles on them. I knew it was pretty high, but it was worth it to me. BTW, blue book is around $3400ish depending on options. If he wanted he could refresh (repaint) the interior plastics and dye the seats himself. I'm doin that this weekend, even took the whole dash out to paint it, I should be done tomorrow. It's not too hard, just time consuming, but it makes the car look a whole lot nicer.

I finally got the picture. I still think he should be asking at least $2500 and coming down from that. It is in pretty good condition when you compare to other beat up ones I see around. This one runs strong and has cold A/C. I may even buy it fix the gauges, cluster and dye the seats and try to get more for it.

Car: '92 Typhoon/ '79 Vette
Engine: Turbo 4.3L/Forged 355ci
Transmission: 4l60/th350
i got my 85 TA high mileage, decent interior and exterior for $2300, so $2500 seems a little high.

the car looks pretty good exterior wise.. my friend just bought an 86 in half the shape for 1000.. tell him to hold out a bit if he is not in a hurry for the cash... if it is running good id ask 2500. The interiors arent the greatest in all the older Zers.
Dont give the car away ask 2500 and settle for 2000.. thats what id do
Just my opinion

Thanks, it looks like I am going to buy it myself. He told me he is asking $1500 and will take $1200. I said I will match anything under $1500 and give him $1200 right now. I will clean it up and try to dye the interior and sell it myself for a few hundred more.

Okay for $1200 I'd buy that. I have the nicest Firebird in the school parking lot (of the people who PAID for theirs, rather than mommy and daddy). I paid $5000 for mine. It's damn worth that. Runs smooth, exterior is in good shape, interior is in great shape, 101k miles on it when i bought her. All options except leather for her. I think because my car looks so nice to begin with I will keep it nice, and set performance aside. I could buy that car and make that a performance car for what I paid for mine.
Plus I believe my car has sentimental value :P
