..but, suicide doors might be cool. I'm thinking it would be easier to get in and out of the car if they were hinged from the back.

Re: i got lambo doors but...

There is a guy on the board who is doing a body conversion on his camaro. I can't remember the name of it but he has Lambo doors. The problem with 3rd gen doors is they are really really freakin heavy.

I think Lambo doors look neat, on a 4th gen anyway. I thought about doing it to my Firehawk for about 5 minutes and decided it's not a very practical thing.

Good luck.

Re: i got lambo doors but...

I've thought of it too. Too many times have a I come out to my car to find 2-3 inches of space between me and some SUV. I wonder everytime if lambo doors would help, or if I should just not park in the parking deck.

Re: i got lambo doors but...

There is one thing that HAS to be made clear. Lambo doors don't make it any easier to get out in a tight space.

The door needs to go OUT enough for you to get out before they can go up. They are for the "HAY LOOK AT ME" factor, thats all!

I had them, got rid of them. For a car you drive a lot, there is just no point at all. Too much $, too much weight, about 20lbs each side, too much headache all togeather. And for what??? So some civic loving goons see you push them up and they go "ooooohhhhh--- aaahhhhh"

And you think to yourself "Man that was a sweet look they gave me"

If that is what you are building a car for I have no comment.

Re: i got lambo doors but...

How would them NOT making exiting easier? To fully open the door, you need 3+ feet. Which CAN'T be done in a standard parking spot. To open these "lambo doors", you'd only need like 1 foot, before they go up.

And they are open, there is zero in your way. On "Normal" doors, you still have to go backwards a bit, to clear the door.

Showing off it not even close to what I'm trying to achieve. Easier entrance & egress is. I think everybody reluctance to them is, because they make everyone feel like they are being a r i c e r by copying a design.

Suicide doors are cool. Been there, done that. But they wouldn't make the side room needed any less for our cars.

Re: i got lambo doors but...

Listen to me. I am telling you this cuz I had them on my car and I have a 1 car garage. I used them in there and IT WAS NOT EASIER. The door needs to open so much to even go up and clear the A-pillar that you can already get out unless you are a fat basterd and need the door to be waaaaay open for you to get yourself out.

I can get a foot on the floor and get up while moving backwards a little and get out whithout them going up. It IS a hastle to have them. Pushing them up and pulling them down gets REAL old in about 5 minutes after you have shown all your friends. REAL OLD.

The issue is that by the time the doors CAN go up, you can allready get out. So where is the convienience factor?????????

Go look at my CD site, there are pics of me in the car with the doors open enough for them to go up. I might as well just stand up and get out at that point in the pic.

Take a look and then post back. Page 15 or something around there.

OK...A door opening 1 foot, is NOT easier than a door opening 3 feet + ? How do you come to that conclusion?

As for being a "fat bastard", I'm 6' 5", 200lbs. No fat here, but (open mouth, insert foot, Dennis)...

I DO need the door fully open, to get out...or in...Notice where I'm parked?

Re: i got lambo doors but...

Simply put...WOW. You are honestly not getting it. Please re-read my post. Please, you are so thickheaded you are don't can't open your eyes to see what I am telling you.

"A door opening 1 foot, is NOT easier than a door opening 3 feet + ? How do you come to that conclusion?"

What the F are you talking about?????????????

The door needs to open just as much as it would open in a tight parking spot before it can go up. Geezus. YOU ARE NOT GAINING ANY BENEFIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Stock you can get your door to open 1 foot, or 3 feet, whatever you want. With the lambo doors, your doors can only open 1 foot (or so), then they need to go up. If you are parked in a tight spot, lets say, you can only get the door open 1 foot, by then you can get out right???? YES. Then get out. Or be like you and pay near a grand and have the door move up and out of the way????? NO. You are still going to be cramped in the available sapce like no other with a damn third gen door up in the air and in your face.

Take a minute, close your eyes and imagine this.,

You get in a tight spot and back in. You look out and you are like "damn this is kinda close, good thing I have my lambo hinge kit in" OK, so far so good. You open the door, you push it out to the location where it has to be so that the door can move up, lets say you can get it out that far. (review:door open and you are ready to step out). You can see the road next to you, enough for you to put your foot down and stand up, but wait! You have a lambo door hinge so you can push it up. Lets say you do. You push this door up. TTshhhhh, kinda the noise it makes as it moves up. Bummp Bummp. It is maxed out and up almost 90*. The bottom front edge is staring you right in the face and you start getting up and out of the car. Ta-Da! You got your *** out. Now you have the wall to your back and the car on your right. Time to grab the door edge and start pulling it back twords yourself awkwardly since there is nothing to grab onto. As you pull down you back up since the more and more of the door is getting horisontal and you have no where to move since you are in such a tight spot. Finally it is down and you can push it shut. DONE.

Walk away thinking "damn good thing I had those hinges."

NO. That just isn't going to happen. It would have been better to just save your $ and weight and squeeze out of the spot like a normal person. And shut your door, and leave.

I did this many many times in my 1 car garage. It was so FU..... dumb. When I went to have the car painted, I had the hinges taken off. Oh not to mention your car can't run on any track after you have these either.

Well I am tired of warning people about this. Do what you want with your car. I learned my lesson the hard way, you want to as well, then fine, go right ahead.

Pretty obvious who the STUPID ****ER is here!!!!!!!!

I AM PERMANENTLY ****ING DISABLED!!!!!!!!!!
MY LEFT SIDE IS PARALYZED, FROM A TRAUMATIC BRAIN INJURY IN A WRECK !!!!!!!!!
I CANNOT GET OUT WITH THE DOOR ANY LESS THAN FULLY OPEN!!!!!!!!!!

I never ONCE said most people couldn't just "hop out". I said *I* cannot. If the handicapped spots are full, I hafta take up 2 parking spaces, to give me room to open the door. I can't just"get out" in a standard parking spot, even with regular parking, and the cars not getting close to the lines, like you can.

I'm not surprised by YOUR narrow minded-ess though...I've read your posts before, and I'm not surprised by your lack of intelligence.

Re: i got lambo doors but...

Well i hadn't noticed that you are disabled. And I really don't know why you are freeking out at me about the fact that I didn't know that you had 1/2 of you paralyzed. Am I psychic? No.

I don't really see how you plan on lifting the door up if that side of you doesn't work 100%. If the temp outside is not hot or mild the shocks don't push the door up, you do. It is a heavy *** door. Reaching over wouldn't be easy to say the least. i would just keep taking up 2 spaces if I was you.

Oh and what other posts have you read that I have posted that you say are unintelligent? I would love to know cuz with a CD site about to go over 50,000 hits due to all the help that is posted there, and since I built my car from the unibody up, I kinda have a little experience with these cars. Please fill me in on just one thread where people say, "Dennis that advice was stupid" or "your CD didn't help at all"...

Don't do this mod. Nuf said.

just buy a vert and leave the windows down enough to reach in and undo the top latches and climb in. No doors needed

No, I don't try to advertise that I'm disabled. I just said *I* wanted them, and you started in on how they wouldn't help me get in or out.

All through the build on the building of the doors, you RAVED about them. Suddenly, you hate them? Maybe YOU should do some editing o your CD pages...like how you don't like them?

How would I lift them? Probably like closing my door. My right arm can reach the arm rest to close the door. I eve posted my car parked. I might even use a hydraulic lift strut (compressed air) to lift and lower it with a switch.

You think I'm one of those jerks that parks in handicapped spots...just because? My car is backed in, for 2 reasons...

1. For the door to have enough room to open, across the striped cross-walk.
2 I have a neighbor, in the building behind my car, that uses the spot on the other side of the sign. Common courtesy. He knows, HIS spot (closest to his door) is always open, and I know my spot is always open. No circling the rows, to find another spot to park.

Re: i got lambo doors but...

Thats is true, I have not been though to edit my site, ever I don't think. It is just so long that I forget that a lot of things have changed and time has passed. I will try and address it soon.

If you really want I know that there is a relatively easy way to mount motors in there instead of hydrolics. They have the same length and attachments as stock hydrolics.

Look into it, I called GT factory about it once. They wanted to sell me the wireless remote to do it far from my car and have the doors pop and go up. Way to much $ and I just didn't need that feature. Maybe if it was a strict show car.

It is not the easiest thing to get out when the doors are up. You still have to be carefull not to smack your forhead on the doors edge when standing up.

But anyways, if you think it will help you, then I hope it does.

I'm 6'5"....Watching out for smacking my forehead on things, is a daily event.

If I could even afford the basic kit, I might consider the auto openers, but, no $....

I think we've cleared up the misunderstanding between us though.
