I don't know how to take them out but you can get the bulb here: http://www.sylvania.com/bin/carApp/carApp_ver2. pl?flag=model_quals&make=&make=Chevrolet&year=&year=1992&model=Camaro&x=21&y=6

Its rather easy, in theory. 4 screws in back that use (I think) a 10mm head. Two on each light in back. Just kinda pop the hood and cram your hand down in there with a wrench, cuss a lot, etc until they come off. Little hint, don't use a socket wrench, use something that is smaller.

Later,
RS

I reach the two 10mm screws from underneath on my '91. It'd be a lot harder if I did it from above.

I plan on polishing the lenses (on the inside). The only way I can remove the lens cover is by cutting it with a hacksaw around the entire rear portion where it has been glued to the black base. The cover will then pop out.

I don't know how much good I can do by polishing the inside, but I will try. These front parking lights look really awful on all 3rd gen Camaros.

Wish I could get a quality lens that will not condensate.

Please let us know if you can make them look better.

--- Reread you original post --- If you only want to remove the bulb, simply twist it counter-clockwise a quarter turn and it'll come out. You'll have to depress a tab first to allow it to rotate though.

The only way I know of to clean the inside of the lens is to remove the front cover which will, of course, require removal of the entire lens unit.

I can't imagine getting them from the top. It's a piece of cake underneath with a long extention. I removed my nasty stock ones and sanded them with 400 grit then 800. Then I clearcoated them. In theory, this should bring them back to like-new, except that the clearcoat I used decided to shrink and crack. It pissed me off, so I smashed it, and coughed up the $$$ for new GM pieces. They were only $17 or $30 each. I can't remember which, but either way, not too bad.

So just to change the bulb inside you have to either SMASH them or cut them!?

Uh, no. You turn the bulb socket 1/4 turn and it pulls right out. But you're not going to be able to clean anything with the housing in the car, plus it's not usually the inside that gets nasty, it's the outside.

Whaddya think about putting the parking light unit in the dishwasher to clean the inside. I notice some dirt and crud in there from condensation. Cascade liquid will clean about anything. But, the chrome reflector paint inside the housing might come off in the washer? Also, I used blue magic wheel polish on the exterior of the lens and it cleaned my lens' fairly good, but the deep nicks caused by rocks and stuff will require intense polishing and sanding to remove -- a job for a polishing wheel or Dremel tool.

THIS MIGHT SOUND DUMB BUT WHY DON'T YOU GUYS CHANGE TO THE '86 LENS. FIRST THEY COME IN YELLOW NOT CLEAR AND THEY DON'T GET DIRTY. CHECK OUT MY PICTURE BELOW. IN THE DAYTIME THEY LOOK LIKE THE NEW DAYTIME RUNNING LAMPS. JUST A SUGGESTION. I HAVE NEVER WORRIED ABOUT HOW THEY LOOK.

Because you have to change the whole fascia to do that. They're not the same size (the non-appearance package lights anyway).

The new ones aren't too bad. I paid about $27 a piece. Then just make sure they don't get that bad again.

well i was at GM the other day and priced those and they told me $47, i about fell over. but i kept inmind how much they charge for the fog lights so it wasnt so bad. but now that i work at the dealership i get the parts at cost!! thank the lord since mine are sh*t, and now i can afford those replacement foglights!

oh and the bulb is a 1097, but if you want to have the "NEW" looking daytime running lamps, just buy the 2097. it uses 20 watts instead of 10. but you might need to drill some holes for wind to cool down the light!

is the 2097 much brighter like the new ta's and vettes? I have thought about finding a way to make mine brighter. I think Mr. Iroc Z or someone else mentioned a way to do this, but it would make your turn signals not work anymore. On my little brother's 92 rs, we put covers on the lights. It sounds pretty bootlegged the way we did it, but it looks good on dark cars and way better than the dirty ones. We took a flourescent light cover (indoor-2'x4' plastic one) and cut/grinded it to the size of his parking light. Screwed it on with two stainless screws and it looks good. I have even had other camaro people ask me to make them for their dark cars. I did not like the looks of it on my white car so I bought new ones. I will see if I can find pics, it looks surprisingly good.

Hey I read some where ( I think it was on the home page for here) that if you take out the parking light lens and put a notch in the bottom of them or the "ring" that holds them in......the water can leak out. Just a thought. If I put those new bulbs in.....where would I hae to drill the holes so they can kewl off?

Basically they are the front turn signals. But parking lights refer to if you are parked somewhere and in the car, you are supposed to have your parking lights on.
