Pics of painted/modified stock camaro rims
Alrighty, well this is my first post, so i guess ill introduce myself and my car. My name is Derek and i have a 1985 Z/28"clone" freshly repainted ( bright copper metalic) with a freshly rebuilt motor (350) with a few mods.
I just painted one of my stock rims (15 inch z's) i polished the lip and front of the spokes (not inside the spokes) painted them a dark argent wheel paint, i have new black center caps with a tritone grey Z/28 emblem in it and i repainted the lug nut covers black, im going to paint the area around the lug nuts (the recess in the center, not the spokes) black as well to really show the contrastr from the polished to argent to black. ill actually have a working camera tommorow to snap some pics and so you guys can give me you thoughts and ideas on it.
but what i really want to see is the other pics from the DIY guys and there spin on the stock z wheels, i have the early models i wish i had the later models that were flat but oh well i like them just the same. later guys, thanks

Here's a picture of one silver and one Graphite. Gives you a good comparison between the darker and lighter colors.

id paint the inside of those with the graphite paint color ( the color of mine) it'll give it a contrast, also i think your iroc would look sweet with some silver gfx stripes and hood stripes... then again im partial to the stripes

Re: Pics of painted/modified stock camaro rims
I only sanded up to 600 grit before taking the polish to em so they're not crazy shiny, but I thik they look good. I plan on painting the insides of the spokes and the lines black before I put them on the car... but I might not.

You can see how bad my current wheels look. That's as clean as they get, I just washed them...

You can see the spots of red on the groove on the bottom left wheel here, they were pretty stubborn ad the paint stripper never could get em off. Oh well.

Re: Pics of painted/modified stock camaro rims
I actually really like 2tonedmaro89's idea of painting the majority of the wheel and leaving the lip. Im partial to the 91-92 5 spokes cuz they got the biggest lip of all the stock rims. However, I think if they were painted a satin gunmetal instead of gloss black and if the center cap was left off with some chrome lug nuts that would look sick. just my 2 cents.

Here are some pics of my 82 Indy pace car after I completed the rebuild in 2000.

Decided to paint the rims silver with blue on the spoke only. I think they look much cleaner this way. Used Dupli-color paint. Still look decent 7 years later.

derockz28 and 85_ZED28,
Guys I love how your wheels look and I'll be doing a make over on mine soon. Can you please detail the process of how you got them looking so good (painting and polishing).
Cheers

Re: Pics of painted/modified stock camaro rims
Hey there Light horse,
When I painted my IROC wheels, the first step was to remove all the paint with aircraft paint remover. Then I sanded the entire rim with 320 grit and followed it with wet 400 grit. The following step is important for a good finish, that is to clean the entire wheel with paint thinner and a cloth towel that does not leave fibers. Since my wheels are multi-color I had a 4 step process of masking to finish the wheel. Part 1 was painting the outer diameter red with 3 light to medium coats. After allowing it to dry, I used a 1/4" 3M plastic masking tape and masked the ring around the wheel. (Note: Make sure you allow enough dry time before masking, or the finish will stick to the tape.) Step 2 was the black around the lug nut area. This is not an easy area to mask, but be patient and use a new razer blade and it works great. Same paint process as step 1. Step 3 was the blue on the spokes, and the last is the silver. After all the paint has dried, carefully remove the masking to reveal the finished product. Optional step would be to lightly sand the areas where the tape & paint met, then a clear coat can be applied to smooth out the entire wheel. I used Dupli-color paint and did not use a primer. In 5+ years they have not flaked. I do need to repaint them due to brake dust stains. I am going to try some rubbing compound first to clean them up. Hope this helps,

This is the only picture I can find, and it uses GMC centercaps instead of the bowtie ones... but you get the idea.

I refinished these 15" Z28's in orange spray and black brush, chrome center bullets topped with Pontiac arrow logo on a black background and chrome lugs.
They sit on my '89 Firebird which resembles The RUINER from the Grand Theft Auto IV game.
