headlight buckets and iroc door decals
After an unfortunate encounter with a deer, I'm having some paint work done on my car. Damage is really minimal and I was going to pay out of pocket, but then I figured whats the point of buying ridiculously expensive insurance every year and not use it?
I have not decided how I should have the headlight buckets sprayed, gloss black or satin. Yes satin is factory and while I don't particularily like body coloured headlight pockets on most cars, I think they look pretty good on a black car. I've got about a week to decide and I'm split 50/50 at the moment. What are you opinions, satin or gloss?? I have previously replaced the stock grill with a 91-92 style and had it painted gloss black instead of satin, and I think it looks better as gloss.
While its going to be in the shop anyway I'm going to have two dings repaired, one being a parking lot/door ding near to the iroc decal. To ensure it is done properly I'm going to have the whole door sprayed. Where is a good spot to buy one right hand side oem type replacement door decal? I've looked on ebay and while most of them look like crappy inkjet home jobs, there are a couple new old stock OEM's listed. Is the silver IROC decal from '86 going to be the same as the silver decal for my '88?
Also, is the decal on the right hand side supposed to angle forward to the car?? It looks like a left hand decal to me (see sig pic). My car was repainted in 2003 and all decals were replaced, but I've always thought the decal on the passenger side door was wrong.
I have also concluded that I am NOT going to go with 91-92 aero style ground effects and high rise wing, I like the styling of the IROC as is. Now would be the ideal time to have the pieces installed since the car will already be in the shop and roughly 50% of it is going to be resprayed anyway. I've decided I'm going to find a clean 91-92 Z28, or possibly a 90 IROC and slap aero ground effects on that.
Thanks for your time, comments and opinions welcome.

The buckets should be gloss black since you have a black car in my opinion. I had mine painted gloss black and I think they look better that way.

so from the factory the pockets are satin black on black cars? ive never really noticed that. i always thought black cars just had body colored pockets. btw im gonna have to agree with you keeping the iroc gfx, i think your car looks excellent as is. the 91-92 gfx and wing would take away from the sleekness of your car. post up some pics of the front of your car

That is correct. The left side leans back and the right side leans forward. That is because the factory used the same decal for both sides. There is no left side & right side door decal. Not many people probably have ever noticed that before!

Interesting, I've yet to see it on another car other than people doing it themselves. I'm also interested in seeing other examples of this scheme.

Re: headlight buckets and iroc door decals
I would recommend doing the buckets in gloss with the black paint, and I agree any other color they should be satin.
Mine are gloss, and I love them!!
