Well, we added yet another 3rd gen to my family tonight.
My family is crazy for Fbodies.
Although the IROC-Z is sold, and is going to a new home in about 2 weeks, we just added another fbody to the family tonight. My sister got her first car (she turns 16 May 12th), dad got her a white ttop '91 Formula. It's got the factory cd player, 305TPI, all around really great looking car. The interior was a pleasant suprise. The only thing it needs is new foam in the driver seat, and it needs a new windshield. Anyways, enough talk. Here's a crappy camera phone picture to hold you over until I can get some better ones.
The good thing about this car (for my sister) is that it's an automatic. The IROC was a 5spd and she just couldn't get it down, so my dad was looking for an auto car for her. It's a 2 owner car, never wrecked, and COMPLETELY original.
Oh yea, did I forget to mention that my sister is super excited.
Updated with new pictures:
And a few goodies:
Audio tape (power seat, spare tire, ttop instructions, etc) still in the original wrapper:
T-top shades still in the original plastic bag, never used:
Original locking nut and brochure still in the bag, original tire brochure, extra GM fuse still in the box, and the original build sheet:

Wish my parents bought me a car..ever. When I got my Trans Am, I was a month away from being 18, and I got $200 from my parents to go towards it...as a Christmas present.. and all I got for my birthday was a bottle of car wash gel.
that car looks good though. I'm sure you sister is excited, a shame she couldn't get the manual shift down though.

i dunno, it would have been nice if my parents had bought be my first car, but i don't think i would be as proud of it as i am since i bought it and pay for everything myself. it's nice to see parents buying their daughter a 3rd gen though!

I compare this to my guitars...I have 5, 4 I bought myself, 1 I got as a gift a while back. The one that was a gift was more expensive and is a nicer instrument, but I just don't have the same....affection...towards it that I have for the ones that I worked for.
Staying on topic, $2,800 seems like a good deal

Very nice. That is too bad she didn't want the manual car, that was sweet. So is this going to get fixed up before she gets it like some paint and stuff? Formula's Rule!

Every 3rd gen we have ever bought was local.
The '89 vert: local classifieds paper
'91 Z vert: Local Chevy dealer
'89 IROC-Z: was 2 doors up the street
'90 IROC-Z: found it in a friend's back yard a mile from my house
GF's '87 IROC-Z: was a friend's car from my local Fbody club
'91 Formula: saw it driving by on my way to school
I have no doubt she'll keep good care of this car. She's in love with it already. She hates dirty cars too, and she's a talented cello player, so she's very tactful.

It's going to a friend of mine in Houston. I met Nick this last weekend for the inspection of the car. Needless to say - he's getting a very nice IROC. Let's keep this thread on topic with the new Formula though

I'm gonna post up a picture of the RPO sheet to see if some of you Firebird fanatics can tell me what some of it means.

Pictures added to Post #1. And nevermind on cracking the RPO codes, it's all listed on the build sheet. I forgot about that.

Very nice. great deal. I wish someone would have bought my first car. When I got my license I bought an 87 camaro, paid $1200 for it. had to put in a new windshield, replace the driverside quarter, rear bumper cover, all new brakes, and a few other minor engine issues....not to mention the paint after the body work and new rims...

I'll be taking the front plate off as soon as we get new plates for it. And putting the ZR1's on it is too much of a hassle just to see how it looks, cuz you gotta take off the spacers and put those on and....blah. I'll just wait till she buys spacers and then get a completely new set of rims for it.

My first 3rd gen i bought for 1000.00 it was a rally sport. the guy had it since new and was beautiful but he couldnt get it to kool down, it had A 2.8ltr in it. so i bought it and the fan realay had a spot where the wire was grounding out so i fixed it. then my friend yanked his 427 out of his 67 vette and tranny so i bought that set up and dropped it in. and changed the rear end and put some 3:73 posi's. it was an 1989 got 8 miles to the gallon on 105 octane. that was the only thing that sucked! besides i sold it when i went 2 college. but now i have my iroc and luv it mann.

What a find and at a great price. Even at $3K I would have picked it up in a heart beat. Congrats and I hope your sister values and appreciates what a nice vehicle she is getting for her first car.

Yea but the whole reason we sold the IROC is because it was a 5spd and she couldn't drive it
And I'm hunting for a set of 17" polished WS6 wheels from an LS1, but not the thick spoked ones (the Speedlines).
