Why so much on paint? It's done! (pics)
I got my car back a couple of weeks ago, was away on biz so appologies to those waiting. I think it turned out great! I'm very happy wtih the work. Still one more round of polishing to go and add the 'IROC' decal. I think I'll leave the stripes off... for now.
I hope I did you guys proud.

That is a beautiful IROC, much like the other cars in your garage. I wouldn't change a thing on that car, it looks great. Great Job!

Looks fantastic!
Only comment I would make... that generic/flexible upper radiator hose looks out of place on a car that is otherwise so nice looking

Looks amazing, inside and out. I think the stripes and the decals would really set it off though. The car looks almost as if something is missing without them. Just my two cents.

Everything looks real clean! Only thing I would eventually change would be the wheels, don't get me wrong they are nice and don't look bad..just a bit too common in my opinion.

Re: Why so much on paint? It's done! (pics)
Thanks for all the props guys. I'm pretty happy with it. This was the first weekend I got to drive it around town. I had a blast in it. I have a few squeeks to hunt down, but that's minor stuff.
To answer a few questions, the paint is Dupont base coat clear coat, we used the factory paint code.
Total paint and parts came out to a shade over $9 grand.
First car show to see it will be at "Wings and Wheels" car show in Santa Barbara, CA next month.
It was a fabtastic, warm sunny weekend...put lots a miles in her. Only thing that was bad about the weekend was tearing the LS7 out of my '06 Z06. I detonated a piston and cracked the block. GM voided my warranty for power adders. Oh well, sending the car to Katech for thier 600hp Street Attack install this week.
At least I got my cool reconditioned IROC to cruise till I get it back.
Cheers!

Re: Why so much on paint? It's done! (pics)
amazing! what kind of body work did u get done? like fender replacements? nose? what added up to$9k ? that doesnt make me feel that bad about the quote i for for $4200 for painting me car(i did 85-90% of the bodywork myself too )
are the headlight buckets painted a semi-gloss black, or flat (doesnt look flat), alsmot looks liek a gloss or semi-gloss, which is what i want, and i think it looks MUCH better
i like the wheels on the car too; did ug et teh dorjambs, trunk jamb, under hood painted too? motor pulled out to do so?
glad ur gettin to enjoy the car !

Re: Why so much on paint? It's done! (pics)
Very little body work was done. Most of the $6,500 for paint was hand/block sanding the panels. 2 coats of clear that were wet sanded. Black paint is called "Black Eggshell" for the light buckets, front fascia insert and faux hood vents and T-Top trim.
$2,500 for tires, front & rear bumper/fascia reconditioning, all new weather stripping, new springs/lowing kit, all new badges, all new light lenses and the last little items. $250 bucks for new, GM original 'IROC-Z' center caps. Man... those were hard to find!

Just can not go wrong with nice new (not faded) red paint. Doors look really straight.
9000 for a show quality paint job is not bad. Did the sand the clear inbeween coats? I just did a riv that way turned out like glass
Wow just saw the truck in the back ground. That would be a sweet little job

Outstanding job! Makes me pine for my '91 Formula project to be done!
Is that you at Buttonwillow in the pic? I race in the Camaro-Mustang Challenge there a couple of times a year. If you are ever up at Thunderhill I instruct there regularly with a number of groups, look for the blonde in a 4th gen CMC Trans-Am!

Did you paint the engine bay, firewall, and the inner fender wells?...It looks like you have. If so, how did you do it?
I plan on doing my car back to the factory red like you have, but want to paint the inside of the engine bay. Anyone have ideas on how to do this without removing the engine??

The interior was like that when I bought the car. According to the service history, the previous owner had the local chev dealership put in the interior.
This father and sone team did the mechanical restoration. Well... actually, they had the dealer do it. I have over $11,000 in receipts from all the work the dealer did to this car. So, spending $9K on paint was a pretty easy decision. The car runs like a watch.
Cheers

OK, so you actually went back in time and bought a new '89 IROC and somehow managed to bring it back with you. Cool. I kinda like it without the decals.

I'm a fan of the stripes and decals. It keeps the car in the 80's
