Another grid vote here. I just wish there was a way to get the ambers to MATCH the red. People have done the painting things and such, but you can always tell the difference.

Depending on the cars overall apperance dictates what taillights look better (in my opinion). The grids defenitely generally look better but sometimes the old style can look good too. I wanted every option possible (which means a lot of tailights) but soon realized that would be rediculous. Heres the combos I cam up with...
Grids with turns colored red
Grids with turns blacked out
Grids 'Nightshaded' all over (or the GTS blackouts)
Old style (black line in the middle) with turns red
Old style (black line in the middle) with turns blacked out
Old style (black line in the middle) completely 'Nightshaded'
and then you can also have the old style without the black line in the middle with the above three options.
Either way, IMO, the amber turnsignals have to go.
I currently have the grids with blackouts and the old style with the black line trough the middle with the turns blacked out.

That one... But I'd add a touch of Nightshade afterwards.
You forgot the GTA tail light cover option. Then, it doesn't really matter WHICH style you have underneath. They'll all look the same.

How did you polish them. What grit(s) did you use when wet sanding?

Have you seen any of the pictures i posted? I have always had success doing the red tail light mod and have done plenty of sets. Brake lights and Turn Signals match perfect and you still have a good shine on the outside. When i paint them from the inside i do a very light coat of nightshades over them so they do darken some to help match.

I'm betting I've seen them, but srdynamics1 has the best match I've ever seen.
I've been looking for a friend of mine, who has a 'vert Camaro, who wants to do them, then the STS mod of my tail lights.

,
but i haven't seen any with the big gap in the middle painted body color though. i think that would look pretty slick. or at least different.
i've got blackouts on my bird, plus everywhere else you look on my car is black.

I think the taillights are the black eye of the 3rd gen F-Body. But if I had to choose between the grid and non grid then I would choose the early style non grid lights.

Re: Opinion on taillights
stock, grids win hands down. BUT since i've seen these ^^^ (which look even better on the black vert from norway?) I will be purchasing a set of older style ones and blacking out the amber. Very elegant design in it's simplicity. Also it's going to make for some KILLER LED's!!!

Re: Opinion on taillights
I'm a bird guy, but I have to say the grid tail lights are very cool. The others could probably be made to look good if you wanted to, but as is, it's the grid.

Re: Opinion on taillights
I don't like the amber converted to black. With the black space on the other side of the Reverse light, thats just too much black.
Amber to red woulda looked good.

Re: Opinion on taillights
If I had your car I would keep the SC lights and paint the black portion silver to match your car. And I wouls de-amber the yellow light portion to red.

I like the old Z28 style better. I also like the Z28-E taillight color placement.

Re: Opinion on taillights
I've always preferred the older style, with the middle stripe painted the body color. In fact, I just picked up a set of the older style tails at the junkyard on my last trip to convert from the grid style my Camaro has on it now.
Wahoo - I love that amber delete! I was planning on just doing the usual red paint, but I like that delete a lot better. The only question I have is how the turn signals were wired afterwards? I'm sure the bulb sockets could be changed on the outer sections, and new bulbs, but how hard was it to do?

Re: Opinion on taillights
Can anyone do a photoshop of Grids w/ Brake lights turned Amber and Turns made Red? If I had to do Grids I'd do that w/ the STS mod that Stephen does.

Re: Opinion on taillights
Persinally, I like to keep it stock and with what the year came with...(but that's just how I am) I like the grid style so much more than the other type. I say go for the grid!
