Why so much in paint? - Part 2

Well, all the block sanding and minor body work is done. Color is on and it has 2 coats of clear. Only thing left to do is color sand and put her back together. I shoud be able to pick her up on Thursday if the suspension work is finished.

looks good, I was always under the perception that the doors should be shot facing the direction that they'd be under the car but I could be wrong, just something I "think" I remember hearing. But that paint on the car sure looks really really nice I'd be excited too.

No, I don't even have the patience or the time to do this. I use the same guy for this job that painted my Silverado SS and both my Vettes. He knows what I expect for results, but there is a price to consider. I'm paying $6,500 just for the paint. That inclides having the front fascia refurbished in Los Angeles. Not sure how that's done, but it's supposed to look like it came from the factory.

I also have about another $1,500 spent for all new light lenses all the way around, weather stripping and a new chin spoiler. Also, bought a new set of G-Force tires for her.

I know I went a bit over-kill on this, but I have always had a thing for 3rd Gens and I thought I might aswell go for it.

Ive been following your progress. Paint is turning out great...looks like they know what there doing! I like the color as well.

Will be nice when its all done and you can enjoy it. Does that price include cutting and buffing the paint?

Looks great. My dad's friend used to always say, "There are two colors for cars: red, and wrong."

Hey Guys,

I just saw the car. It's looking F***ing great! They already put the lowering kit on and hung the doors, hatch and hood and rear facsia. 1st round of color sand and polishing has been done. IT looks like the promise he made to complete by Thursday is going to happen. I love it when people keep to thier timelines. (That... and I told him it was going to cost him $100 a day for every day he added to the timeline)

Pictures will be posted later this week.

FYI: I finally found new GM original center caps. I was freak'n shocked when they told me $52.00 was the price. Then, I had kittens when he told me "EACH". I continued to search but could only find used ones.

Man... And I thought the Corvette tax was a (b)itch!

Well, this guy is very talented at what he does. But... the 3 paint jobs he's done for me in the past have been near flawless and all 3 were weeks past the due date.

What most shops do, is take your job and many others that come by there way durung your job. They streach everybody's cars out so they don't turn work down and they always stay busy.

This guys knows that if it isn't done to my strict standards, he will repaint the car at his cost. I told him that if he wanted this job, he has to make my car a priority. Besides, he gets plent of work from my referrels.

thats more true when it comes to metallic paints. so that the metallics all layout the same. a solid not metallic color is alot more forgiving

oh yeah and the car looks great. good luck

Yeah, that's about what I paid for one at a Chev dealer about 5 years ago ($60.00 CDN). I couldn't wait as I was going to a show & shine that weekend and the rest of the car was minty!

Nice paint job. Hardly wait to see her finished!
My fave colour too!!!!

Thanks, but I have all the badges and decals, just waited for the paint to cure before the last round of wet sanding and polish.

Cheers,

Tommy
