I installed 4300K HIDs today
I Installed H1 4300K HIDs and dual beam H4 4300K HIDs
It cost me $500 total to do it. That includes the 4 European housings, the H1 HID kit, the dual beam H4 HID kit, and shipping.
Took about four hours to mount the ballasts and run the wiring. But I mounted the ballast so you can't see them just looking in the engine bay.

That's pretty cool that you actually took the time to do it right using the projectors. Alot of times people just install the HID kits without the correct projectors, blinding everyone else. Godo work man!

hey I got a few q's for ya:
did you buy everything as a kit, or piece it together?
it looks like you have two bulbs on during low beam, and four during high beam?
where'd you buy everything, ebay?
and why did you choose 4300k opposed to 6 or 8000k?

I bought the housings from http://www.rallylights.com/hella/165mm_lo.asp. I bought item # H65451: Set 165mm Rectangular ECE Conversion Headlamps. Two Hi/Lo beam with 60/55w H4 Bulb and two Hi beam with 55w H1 bulbs and adapters. $164.73 I used them with the bulbs they came with for awhile before I got the HIDs in. Just this upgrade alone was a huge difference, I almost cancelled my plans to go HID, but I was egged on by my friends to go HID. I then was just gonna do the outter set with a dual bulbs, but I decide to spend the extra money to get the H1 HID setup as well.
I bought the HID kits on ebay. The H4 is not a standard H4 HID bulb, it actually uses the same bulb and ballast for both hi and lo beam. But it is moveable, it comes with all the wirering and a relay needed to do this. The H1 HID kit just wires up easily. All I had to do was make four 3 inch jumper wires.
I went with 4300K because they are the brightest and whitest. The 6000K had a little to much blue in them, and the 8000K were way to blue for me. I figured if I was spending the money, might as well get the best performing housings and bulbs.

4300k is the brightest light but 8000k looks the best in my opinion (which is why I went with those) but from what I gather there isn't that much difference between the light output.
EDIT: If the kit you bought uses the same bulb for high and low then that doesn't sound like a very good kit to me. My kit from ledguages.com has a seperate bulb for the high beam and if I had bought the H4-4 kit it would have two seperate HID bulbs in each socket, one for high and one for low with 4 ballasts.
I can't speak for that other guy's car since those aren't the same housing I have, but the eBay housings I bought are fiberglass and a glass lens, not plastic.

thanks for answering my q's.
so did you go with the hi/lo kit where the bulb actually moves, like these? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/HID-C...QQcmdZViewItem
I too am after a kit for both high and low beams, but I don't want a wait time for the high beams... Let me know if you want to take this to PM's.

I want to do this upgrade but I dont know if the wife will be happy about spending $400 for lights. I saw this ad on craigslist. http://houston.craigslist.org/pts/288160438.html
Is this similar to what you guys are discussing?

This is the kit I bought. It came with absolutely everything I needed. Including the wiring and relay needed. This kit made the install much easier, along with the adapters that came with the housings I bought.

I bought the H1 kit from the same guy.

I didn't see anyone say that putting a HID in a free form housing is optimal. Though if you look at the link the are Euro spec headlight patterns, which (to my understanding) has a much sharper cut off then DOT spec headlights. When the VW GTI guys do the HID swap they would normally buy the Euro spec headlights. For a non-projector they have a great cutoff. Since we haven't seen pics of the headlights against a wall we have no idea what type of beam pattern the lights have. You are only assuming they have a crap cutoff.

Hi, Just wondering what there is to wiring the ballast? So one ballast is for high beams and one for low beams on each side?

Re: I installed 4300K HIDs today
OK everybody. It's not that I didn't like the 4300K bulbs, they are awesome, brighter than I ever imagined. And I would have kept them. But I saw 6000K HIDs on another 3rd gen, and I kinda liked the tint of the light better. They (6000K) look like the factory installed HIDs on BMWs, Mercedes Benz, Caddies, ect. Where as the 4300Ks are just a really bright pure white, no purple/bluish tint. To tell you the truth, I think the 4300Ks are a little bit brighter, but I just liked the tint/color of the 6000Ks.
EDIT: And everybody that has just done the low beam HID and says they have no need for use of hi beams, you don't know what your missing by not having HID hi beams. It's absolutely awesome being able to see that far ahead of you. The hi beam light pattern spread on the road is totally different than the low beam pattern.
