3" lift off harwood cowl
What else other then the hood will you have to buy to install this and how safe is a lift off hood? Would buy a bolt on but im low on funds and after the tpi to carb swap the stock hood doesnt want to close. 14x3 drop base still hits i guess its due to my street dominator high rise.

You have to lift it off!! Seems like it would be no problem, but when checking the oil, or any other simple task under the hood take 2x as long, and you have to have your girlfriend help you carry it cause its windy... it could be a problem.
Have fun!

I have one and i love it. I can easily lift it off by myself and it makes working under the hood much easier. The only downfall is when it is painted then you have to have 2 people to take it off because if it flexes to much it will crack the paint.

you will have to buy pins for all corners. i bought the cheep ones from vatozone then have a couple little locks i put in if i am out of town.
but i love mine like stated above it is east to pull off buy your self i am putting foam on the inside of mine so it dont scratch the new paint when laying on top of the car.

It seems like a lift off hood would be a pain in the neck to have on a car that is a daily driver, having to have a friend help you lift it off and whatnot. I'd probably say save up the extra $200 and get the hinge style.

i had a liftoff on my 87. specifically the 3" harwood cowl.
i loved how the 4 hoodpins looked.... for the day that it stayed on the car. one of the locking hoodpins that were on the front of the car somehow rattled loose and the hood came up, smashed my windshield and broke off the car. had to get a buddy to pick up my hood with his truck and bring it home. and this was only doing 40mph. imagine if i was doing 70...
anyways, if you do end up buying one, put regular hood pins on all 4 corners, but on the front 2, put the small masterlocks. that will keep anyone from walkin away with your hood at night.

i heard there is a way to glass the lift off hood to your stock hinges using costom brackets. another option is just weld dzus clip brackets to your stock hood hinge and use pins in the front.

I just used 2 ton epoxy to glue 1 x 1/8 aluminum angle strips to the hood. I formed and drilled them to fit the hood & hinges. I did not want the pinned look, so I went with the flush fit self ejecting quarter turn fasteners, 8 of`em.

if its a stock hood, you know it hurts too that thing weighs a friggin ton!
when i put the fiberglass hood on my car it actually made the front of the car sit 1/2" higher than it was with the stock hood... thats a lot of weight saved.

Well the guys at Goodmark make a excellent cowl hood thats bolt one thats way cheaper then a fiberglass bolt on. Plus Summit or jegs have them for a killer price like $349 or something like that. I like steel better cause its easier to do work on and with them. And unless you have strut tower braces the add alot of strenght to the front end. i learned at Wyotech that unibodied cars need there hood, fenders and so on for strength. Heard some horror stories about bad fiberglass hoods even from harwood. Plus they heat crack

I just picked up a 3" Hardwood bolt-on that isn't even painted yet, just a light coat of primer. At $150 I figured I couldn't find a better deal. It'll be nice to take some weight off the front though.
I have been pondering the issue of whether or not the hood would help with the frame being unibody or not. But, I have STB, wonderbar, SFC. If most of the cars on here are like mine and there is a little slop in the hinges anyway, the hood would not play any role in the strength of the car at all.

I have the same harwood hood the only problem I have with it is sometimes I have a little blind spot when I look across the hood where the cowl sticks up.
