i have a set of chrome wheels that i let sit on a car and they have oxidized in places in the spokes and so on. NO flaking or peeling, just oxidation pitting.

i realize that they wont be perfect without re chroming, but i am wondering if there is anything chemical wize that will eat that stuff up without damaging the chrome? i dont mind re polishing, but the pollish itself isnt abrasive enough to knock down the oxidation?

any suggestions?

Have you tried cleaning them with steel wool? Just put some water, glass cleaner, or soapy water on it and keep it moist while you rub it with the steel wool. We use it at work to make old chrome look better. It will also take of some surface rust and hard water spots.

If you are going to use steel wool, I'd use nothing coarser than #0000 grit.

You could also try some Soft Scrub cleanser on a sponge or on the steel wool. I did this periodically on a lightly pitted rear bumper on a car I used to own, then followed it up with some wax. Worked quite well.

you might try Nev'r Dull, it comes in a silver can and is like a cotton fiber soaked with polish, it works really well on alot of metals, includind chrome.
I got mine at Target, but I'm sure it could be found other places.
