ive used some on my edlebrock headers but it was only like 500 degree paint but it was like rustoleum or something. it has held up preety good on the headers you just need to prep the area really good. i put 2 or 3 quotes on them. now the y-pipe hasnt held up too great b/c it is close to the road so idk how the exhaust would turn out.

That POR 20 exhaust paint is pretty nice. My dad used the velvet black and I have used the aluminum. Both went on easy and look nice. I would suggest spraying it on rather than brush since it leaves small streak marks.

So if you have aluminized pipes, should you remove them, and sand them down real well to bare metal before painting them ? Because they already have a coating, so to say

The VHT paint is good stuff if you use it properly. I've had it on my headers for a year now and I've done all 5 sets of our dyno headers with it and they've been 3 years now.

Clean and dry the metal real well and apply the paint in many thin coats. I use 2 full cans for each set of headers. Let it flash between coats for about 5 minutes. Once you're done let them dry overnight. Then you need to cure them. I use a mapp gas torch and heat the headers slowly until the paint "melts" and takes on a glossy appearance. Once you get that wet look let them cool. I do this 5 or six times before I put them on the car. When you get them on and fire the motor look for smoke. If they start to smoke, shut the motor off and let the headers cool. Keep doing it until they don't smoke. Sounds like a lot of work but it's not bad. I know people that have used the VHT paint and not cured it and the paint just fell off in a day or so.

Re: vht flameproof paint 1500*

I just painted my shorty headers with it for the second time. the first time, i 'tried' to cure the paint in the car, didn't work. Paint fell off after driving it once or twice, then they started to rust. This time i cured them in my bar-b-q. Heated them to 250 for like 15 minutes, let them cool. Heated them to 450 for like 20 minutes, let them cool. Heated them to 550 for like 20 minutes let them cool. They look pretty tough now, and i didn't leave any hand prints on them when i was handling them... The finish looks pretty durable this time. I will let you know how they work out

Re: vht flameproof paint 1500*

My brother painted his hooker headers with that paint and it worked great. Sanded them down with a Da and got everything pretty much off of them. Then he painted them with the Vht and burned them in by putting them on the car, letting them get hot from the engine and then turned it off burning the paint on there. its been 6 months and its held up really well
