Side molding or not ?
what you think ?
My 82 S/E went to the paint shop!
well..now its time to decide
Should i use the side molding or not ?
i had one made with "woods" body colored
i donno if use it or not
they protect the doors when cars parking on your side open the doors ....
should i install them or not ?

yes for the reasons of door dings no for the reasons of it looks better.
I daily drive my car but whenever i repaint it side molding are coming off. The body lines really show with them off.
Ive got 1 door ding...from myself opening up my door on a gas pump bar or whatever lucky its in a spot that u wouldnt be able to tell...pissed me off...but other then that ive never got a door ding. I know where and how to park my car so no one can hit it. I simply wont go somewere if parking is 2 feet between every car. Windy days...forget the parking lots. lol thats how i do.

ok well it depends how careful you are with your car. Mine got taken off when painted and they were painted but left off the car if my mind changes. I only regret it for the one day i chipped it with my dads door but its very hard to see it and it was my fault but hope the pic helps a bit

I think the side molding on the car serves as protection and I would leave it on. I have the factory installed molding which is black and on a black car is hardly noticed.

My side molding is going bye bye in the spring. When my car goes to the detailer in the spring I am having it taken off and repainted/buffed. I think it looks ugly and sometimes it turns yellow (my car is white) and i have to really scrub it to get it clean again. PITA. Side shot with the molding.
Perfect photoshop for someone if they wanna take the molding off.

hi sammy
the moldings are very useful for parking scratches.
i think if you paint it the same color it could look good. otherwise forget it.
people are very careless when opening doors and the same could happen to you in a rockanroll party night.
chao loco
btw, i have 2 tires that could be useful for you.
btw2, do you know how to contact roberto??

I'm more practical. Let someone open their door into my molding... not my door:
In the end, it's personal preference.

I think it goes better with some colors than others.
So I'm not too worried about it either way.
My biggest concern like mentioned, is you can say u drive or park wherever, there will be a day when some fat minivan slob will slam his door dead open into yours.
I would rather not have a huge crease down the center of my door lol

I would like to remove the molding from my Bird, but the idiots where I work get out of their cars like the seats are on fire and their butts are catching. I see people every day who literally kick the door open, and one guy pulls the latch and then slams his shoulder into the door to open it. Then you have the women who back into the parking space with the door wide open and their head hanging out looking at the yellow line.

for a mild DD, molding. For a more hotroded car or something that is supposed to look really nicel. No molding. Simple as that.
My car will never see molding. But my car also will never have AC, heat, Cats, real mufflers or less than 475HP so, to each his own.

ive been considering it too. you can park wherever you want, but so can anyone else. lets say you park in the last space, all the way close to the curb...that doesnt mean the guy who takes the spot next to you will park perfectly in the lines.

ok the guy parked in front of his garage cause he has another car in there. the garage was lower than the front door. so there was a corner where the stairs are, made of braicks on the right side. opened the door right into the corner. girlfriend did it twice on the other side...i guess he backed in. ill try to show you what i mean.
imagine the car parked in the same position as the white one, and then imagine opening the door with the middle of the door being at that corner. cant think of a better way to explain it.
