New Heat Extractor Hood
Do you think this would look good on a third gen? http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2006-...otrsCircle.jpg

the car in the Nitto (GMhightech) calander for January has that hood....I brought it up on a local F-body forum in MN, because I loved that hood so much....I think it's badass....but as much as I love my RAII hood on my thirdgen, I think it'd be overboard

do that on an RA I and I think it would look good. the RA II never looks as good because that scoop style was meant for the shorter 4th gen hoods. just my opinion.

We added about 12 to 14 " to the third gen hood scoop from the fourth gen hoods when we design them for the third gen models, can't remember the excat measurements. Longer hoods , longer hood scoops.? Rex

Personaly I think ASCD should fix the mold for the ss hood before they make another 3rd gen hood. Not flaming Rex, just fed up with going through 2 hoods that are nowhere near useable.

I would say no. That looks ridiculous to me. But I don't care for the RA2 either.
I'd rather see a better looking cowl hood made for birds that goes better with the lines of the car.

I really like that hood and the car that it's on. (the red one) That happens to be the same guy I bought my sub box off of, he lives down the road from me.

Rex, if your looking for the next big selling hood, why not produce a factory style iroc fiberglass hood? So many people have already expressed interest? I would think it would be easier to make as you already have the design?

You don't need better photos. All you need is a SawZall and an 8 lb. hammer.
There's no accounting for taste. Some people like fat chicks. Some people like granny-****. Some people like gocery cart spoilers. Some guys like other guys, and some women driving Subarus like other women. Those same people might actually PURCHASE and install a hood like that. At least you've found your target market niche.
Good thing this is posted in a board that caters to subjectivity.

gross....
you know what you really need to make is the superduty hood hawks makes for pontiacs. but you need to make one for a camaro. id definitly buy it. ive talked to hawks about it and they said if i get 20 people willing to make a down payment they would make the hood. like that is going to happen... i cant round up 20 ppl to put down $500.

How about making a version of the japanesse hood forthe camaro with the heat extractor? You already know that would sell like mad cause almost everyone on here with a Camaro goes nuts for that thing.
As far as the RA2 with the heat extractor for the 3rd gen bird, that hood is a little too smooth and rounded for the 3rd gens squared off body lines. Just my opinion, but I think you'd have a lot more luck with a japanesse hood vs. the RA2 extractor hood. Or smooth out the SS hood you already have so that its lines flow better towards the back of the hood like the factory 4th gen SS hood. There is a big market here for something new, expecially something thats not just a copy of something off of a different generation.

I think it's tacky as hell, but one thing I've learned over the years is that an awful lot of thirdgenners like tacky crap. My suspicion is that it would sell well.
One thing I think you may want to also consider is the "inverted cowl" hood that has generated a couple of very long threads on this board from time to time. Some Camaro in Japan has the hood in Carbon fiber and it's generates a lot of talk every time a pic of it is posted. If you do a search you'll probably find it. I think that could be a very sucessful hood.

i would suggest looking at the aftermarket for firebirds and not just camaros. theres alot in the way of nice looking hoods for camaros but i know of ONE good looking hood for the firebird (ra 1) and even then its look is questionable to me. some new options for us would be nice besides the HUGE superduty hood. thats big enough to be tacky as all hell. also give the option for carbon fiber. it doesnt cost you money to have that option for extra money if someone wants it and opens up a whole new market to the hoods as well.

I think a hood like this for a thirdgen would be awesome if in RA2 only, there has to be a noticable gap between the two sets of extractors.
Where Mecham messed up in making it for the LS1 4th gens is that they made the front of it look like the firehawk hood not the ws6 hood.

i'd like the big block hood if it didn't have the big bubble in the front. which i think is what the super duty hood is right? anyway if you change the vents it might have potential. A dual purpose hood would be great. Ram Air and heat extracting. Personally I have a Ram Air II hood on my car and would buy one of those if the vents weren't hideous. Maybe instead of 2 vents on each side just have one on each side make it longer. sort of like the jap hood except smaller to fit into the RAII i suck with photoshop or i'd show you what i meant

ss, superduty, and big block are 3 different hoods. i dont like the idea of this hood on a third gen, but i do think it would sell.
