I too admire the shaved look. Want my two cents? Well here it is: shave the rear view mirrors while your at it, or at least replace them with something that 'flows' alot better/nicer. Don't know what you have planned for the gas door, but you can reloctaed the entire neck and gas cap to the inside of the hatch.
Good luck and I can't wait to see the end result!

Yeah I like them like this too, smooth and clean. I too plan to have some stuff shaved but I also want to get some stuff molded. Its all going to have to wait until its finally time to re-paint the car, so not for a while for me ...

I am doing the same thing. I am going with:
-Shaved handles
-Shaved Locks
-Shaved antenna
-Shaved emblems
-Tinted
-A bit lowered
And as a personal little custom thing for me. My vertical doors
Here is a photoshop of my car, and how it will look Spring '06.

This is a pic of the buildup. The 500 HP motor is in with a T-56 and a 12 bolt too. Also the N2O with a 150 shot. Thing should be a monster

I plan on maybe getting one pass. I have herd of guys sqeasing by and then after they pass, if they are fast the techs need to check your car out. If it doesn't pass then they don't let you run. Really not a big deal for me. They damn track is an hour away..... But thats ok if i don't get to. There are some industrial parks around here that def have 1/4 mile strips and longger that are free to run down after hours.
This car is far from a track car. More of a street machine that will be fun to drive around town and on little trips to shows. Thats all it is. Not ever really intended for the track, never was intended for the track from day 1 of the build-up.
But thats cool, I get the "thats not legal for the track" allllllll the time, just check my cardomain site and the guestbook. People allways love to point it out.
Maybe the next buildup will be track oriented. But I like the "street machine" idea for now.

I'm going with the shaved look also on one car. I'd recommend getting blackouts - it might make the car look even more smoother. Mine is also going to be a "street machine." If you want to keep it track legal and still have it smooth then put in c5 corvette handles or something.

For the license plate cover I would get a black piece of plastic and mold it to match the lines of the inner tail light lense to make it look like one big piece. Just a thought. Good luck with all that, and have fun.

I dont like the license plate cover idea, and i dont know if i would personally go as far as the gas tank, but if you are not worried about the legality of it all, might as well get rid of the corner lights and make the bumper shaved on the sides. also, what costs besides labor/paint is required to do a door handle shave? like a popper set, how much would that all be..sounds kind of interesting and i can do it myself.

well there is the kit somewhere between 125-300 or more. Then bolting it in, wiring it up and then on to the handles getting removed. Thats pretty much it. Very straight forward

^^^ WTF?! That's one expensive kit!! I paid like $60 or so for my two-door kit. It was brand new, but I bought it from a girl that decided not to use it on her car. And it's a Spal kit too, not the cheapo-crapo AutoLoc kit.

Well I def think you got a lucky and threfore great deal. Look up prices at jegs.com or summitracing.com. If you google kit prices you will easily find find stuff in that price range, depending on options like alarms, mutliple functions, and other random stuff like what kind of saftey switches and latches are available.
Not to be rude or anything, but when people ask for a price of something, it is better to offer a range that is even a bit high so that when they go out to buy this stuff they are not just expecting to spend how much you did on your lucky deal. I am willing to bet there is no one else on these entire boards that has got shaved door kits for 60 bucks.
To be save set aside a couple hundred bucks. Just to play it safe.

True, I hadn't thought about inflating the price some. The Spal kit I have is the 7 channel one w/ two solenoids, and an electric push-switch that can be hidden on the *outside* of the car in case the remote dies.
Wow, now I feel ripped off heh. I just checked on Slickcar.com, and they have my kit for $60 brand new Oh well, I did buy mine a couple months ago. Linky

That kit is 60 bucks, but that is not a shaved door kit. There are no acctuators or poppers....That is the stuff that actually cost $$ to get good ones. My kit was like 150 I think. It has 2 heavy duty acctuators, 2 poppers, 2 switches that you can wire outside incase your remote dies, and a comuter box that runs all the wiring for the remote operation of the doors and 1 other feature. I might do something fun with the extra feature and wire it into my N20 Purge or something. hehe. Pure outside the car at a show would be cool/funny.

Good catch I didn't really read it before, so I didn't notice that the solenoids weren't included. I basically have that kit, with I think 35# or 40# solenoids. I still need to get the spring poppers tho, it sucks havin' to pull the top of the door while pushing the button Actually, once I put my Lambo kit back on (keep in mind that this is a Cavalier sedan, not an F-body), the Lambo's automatically opens the doors for me
Here's a pic of the set-up I have. I put the heat-shrink tubing on it to keep it more organized.

Thats good to hear that it will open all by itself. That is what I am doing, but with my F-body. Gonna look sick. I just need to deside how to pull the doors back down, once I get in....hmmm? some kind of handle or stap I think

That's right, I forgot that you have lambo's on your car In my Cav, I just pull down on the lil 'cup' or whatever it's called in the armrest, y'know? But your doors are A) long/tall as hell, B) go up about 90* (versus my 45*), so I dunno how well that would work for you. I'm considering making mine go up higher, but I dunno for sure yet. I will be suiciding the rear doors - with actuators too The B-pillar will be cut out and welded to the rear doors, so when I open it all up, there won't be a post in the opening

Now that photoshop is more what I was thinkin'
Dennis, I'm not too sure how long it'll take me to do the doors. I still need to buy a welder and get the universal suicide kit before I can do it I'm making a full custom interior too (future show car heheh) so I've got a lot of work to do - and I can't do any until spring b/c the garage is not heated, and the family complains about the smell of fiberglass resin
[Edited b/c 406 posted before me!! haha]

i like it minus the license plate thing....the gap between the two taillights helps it flow better IMO. i think you'd be better off just getting a customized plate and leaving it on there...

I love seeing other people's projects. Do you have any more pictures of your car in a folder somewhere? I'm curious to see your fuel cell install for one. Your interior is pretty much what I'm goig to be going for in my GTA. Autometer gauges, full cage, racing seats.

If you used that concept on the tailights smooth. That photoshop id black it all out cept keep the reverse lights clear and paint some kind of translusant white paint to match the body...so it blends in like the body.
I also agree that 85-90gfx are nessisary.
Clear sidemarkers or shaved sidemarkers also
I like brisk's idea about the mirrors...id make them the same style but like fiberglasses smooth into the side of the car no gaps no showing mounting of it.

crazyjim....There are over 200 pics on my car domain site. With full walkthroughs of a few things including the lambo doors and a lot of other stuff. I will post a pic here to remind you to go check it out. Thanks for the compliments. Makes me feel like I got guys on my side, hehe. (my dad thinks this is all just a waste of my time )
§teve...THank you too. I really hope it is a blast to drive. A lot of people give me crap all day long for some of the decitions I have made but whatever, it is my car. Meens a lot to me when people support the crazy monster that this thing is going to be. (I will stop being sappy now, haha.) But for real, thx and check back soon. The fuel system is done and all the new wiring is 90% done. I will update that site as soon as I get more ignition stuff wired up so that the motor looks really good.
I will link up a couple of my favorite build pic, just for fun.
that pretty much shows how the cell went in. THe cross bar is what holds it in place, pushing down while the threaded rods and nuts push up from under. This will keep it from rattling around.
there is a shot of underneath. Ignore the dead rear and the tiny fuel supply lines. THey are tossed.
And of course this is it covered.
And one last one a couple days after I dropeed the motor in. (ok time for bed...

That looks sweeeet Now if only I had the time, resources, money, and space to do something like that Now I have to check out your CD page for all the pics BTW, I'm adding you to my friends on CarDomain - I'm not gonna have enough time to look at all 21 pages haha. My name over there is the same as here.

LOL, yeah sorry about the large # of pages. I just have a lot to show I guess. Everytime I update I like to make a new page, just cuz I feel like there has been too many new things that have happened. You can fly through them though. Couple of the pages are just all the pics of the motor's parts as they are getting assembeled and stuff. Thanks for checking it out....
The motor has been updated quite a bit. It looks MUCH more completed now. Last night I fianlly calipered the crank snout and the bore of the ATI damper and found them to be within spec, so I installed it with the billet pully. Looks much more completed. I have to order ARP waterpump bolts cuz the damn ones that came with the motor snapped, UGH. then the polished alt. Oh well I am def just blabbing now........sry.....This is def off topic..
This is on topic: Is it illegal to shave off the side markers?

I have that magazine It was Hot Rod magazine. I sorta didn't like the C5 marker lights, but thats just me. I guess I will just get some clear ones. I am shaving everything else, and on a white car the clears will blend well ( I hope). I guess it is not too big a deal to have to keep them.
But back to the origional Q. Is it illegal to get rid of them?

It def would be in VA...it prolly is illegal anywere.
But what would be cool like ive seen on old 30-40s hot rod customs. Are lights that until they are on just look like paint...but when lit up you can actually see the light. But when the lights are off it appears just like smooth body lines. Lots of customs out there do this for the tailights and what not. So id consider that
No idea how they do it though.

Pretty much every state wants you to have a blinker visible from the side, so you pretty much need to keep it.
You could get the clear lenses, then get some white paint and apply it - thinly - over the lenses. That would make it look white when off, and if you don't put too much paint on, they would still light up whatever bulb color you use (clear/white, amber, blue, green, purple, whatever hahah)
