Bubbled tint removal
I just got an 89 IROC Sunday.
The rear window has some badly bubbled tinting on it.
It is so bad I can barely see through it.
Does anyone have any tips on how to remove it,
without lifting the Rear window defogger traces.

I had mine done, but it was also retinted, when i bought mine it was BAD purple and bubble, they steamed it off and retinted everything for like 250 bucks...

I removed mine. The tint shop would have charged me 40 bucks for them to take it off. So I thought I'd spend 10 bucks or so on supplies and try it myself.
I used a razor blade, and carefully I might add. Start in a corner and try to make sure it all comes off in one piece. If it doesn't the layer left on the glass does not come off very easily. I peeled it slowly, and as evenly as possible so it would not tear on me. Be careful on the defrost lines cause once they are cut I don't think they can be repaired.
For the glue I used some Goo Gone I think it was called, and very fine steel wool (#0000). Did that a couple times, then glass cleaner to finish it up.
There are other ways of doing it, some probably easier then mine, but it worked good for me.

a huge jug of acetone would work, what ever you do make sure you have ventalation. I recommend a small fan pulling fresh air in and bad vapors out

You don't want to get acetone on your interior plastic...
Stuff called "tint-off" available at Wal-Mart is what I used (it is Diluted ammonia). Used a razor blade to start one corner then sprayed this stuff on and the tint comes right off. Once the tint film was off, used some more of the spray to take all the glue off. Didn't hurt the plastic or defroster lines. No smell after either.

yea, it tends to eat up the plastic lol.. careful with that stuff. To many people who didnt know what they were doing or didnt read instruction labels would be the cause of cheap products that dont work as well. We use to have good paint stripper, until someone caused themself a chemical burn and sued the company. We use to have superglue that could hold almost anything at high tensile strengths until some... *holds breath* glued their hands together or eye shut. All these things have been taken away and replaced by cheaper products that dont work as well as they should. All because people are.... *holds breath again*

Well, mine came off quite easy, the person I got it from apparently put it on himself so I took it off myself, just started to peel from one corner to the other nothing else needed. You should see how easy it will come off before spending money on it.

iv taken some tint off before, use a heat gun . Put heat on the outside of the window and peel. use thinner to get the adhesive off. If you start to peel off the defrost grid make sure to curse at your car they like that
