Well guys... would you believe I missed the whole thing! The one time I did not check... figures! Thanks for all the kudos! Means alot.
It is supposed to reair on Sept 4th... so I will have to record it then. I'm hoping someone local got it on tape so I can borrow it before then! Well at least now you all know what I really look like!
Oh my uncle called to say my cousin saw it and called him... too funny! I wished they would have called last night I could have caught the 2nd airing.

congragluations! I didnt see the show myself but I hope to. Ive followed alot of the progression on your car and I will admit I used to not like it alot, but it is very different and it has grown on me some. Its a one of a kind, and I respect all of the time and work that you have done to it. Very unique and all that matters is that you like it. There is no need for everyone to start bashing, there is a difference between saying you dont like something and just being outright nasty about it.

Save your internet rage for the idiots on this board who have stupid extra long winded sigs with pics of stock cars that appear 8 times in a thread. And those who post misinformation and other assorted nonsense. you know who you are.

OOH Ouch! So I ramble on a little bit when I post a message. I don't post alot but when I do I usually have something to say that takes more than one or two words. And what is wrong with having a stock car in your signature?? It was the experience I gained building and racing stock cars that prepared me for the restore and customization job on our Father and Son camaro project.

How about a couple of pics or a link to where we can get a look at the car in its Rides configuration.
By the way CONGRATULATIONS it is just too cool to get your car on rides. About the only thing that could be better would be to have Chip Foose steel it and overhaul it.

congrats on RAIF Shannon. And to any one who feels that they should disrespect someone who has put in countless hours in there car think before you speak. Take the time to look at her cardomain pages of her car you see just how much work see has done and yes the work SHE does herself to her car. I like the car over all the only on her car I dislike is the wheels other than that I think the car great. She has done thing on her car that I would like to do to my cars like the forth gen mirrors and clear lenses. And like some of the other said she has done more to her car then most could evan comprehend

Please note that my post had nothing to do with you, your posts, or your sig, which I have not even noticed till this thread. My post was aimed at danthesmlkman and others like him. Going by your low post count and 2001 registration you are the opposite of who I was callin out. I just felt like ranting in raifs highly viewed thread.
btw I just learned I can hide others sigs in my prefs.
Some here like to bash their fellow 3rd gens the way other car guys bash 3rd gens, and they do have valid reasons. But if we start to legislate taste the terrorists win.

Current pics of the car should be going up on the site soon. Just got a decent digital camera, so I should be able to get some good pics of the car in its current configuration...new clears & flush fender vents!
I actually had some good pics from that day at the show, but the blasted eckerds did not put that roll on disk, I have to go back and chew them out per the usual. Glad I got a new dig cam!
On the engine... we have and are installing the new truleo intake, with 65mm TB! The other goodies are waiting till we get some runs in for them for comparision to the preintake set up. Once we get those Dyno runs in, then we are going to dive it. The plans... msd box, custom chip, 1.6 rockers, possibly larger valves, milling the heads for better compression (might wash with the bigger valves), further head porting, a multi angle valve job (never had one)... further down the line... turbo!
On the susp... coil overs, tubular k-member, spohn torque arm, extra bracing (like Dean's), pan hard relocation, coil trim on the rear eibachs... hopefully this will allow the car to transfer weight better so I can get a decent launch @ the track! Car sits and spins, no matter how it is launched, in current config due to the spring rate & lowering, yet even w drag radials... hard to believe I know, but true!
Last but not least... wheel and tire package is changing... on order new wheels just coming out and are not avail yet! You guys will both like it and hate it!

Shannon, I gotta say that way back when, I honestly felt bad for ya with all the jerks that give you crap. Not the people who disagree with your car, just the ones who are idiots about it.
...but now I'm almost jealous!!! It's actually kinda cool, ya know???? A cruel word here and there could be hurtful, sure, but this so ridiculous that it's actually kinda cool. I mean naming yourself after a REDRAIF? That's flattery is I've EVER SEEN IT!!!!

It's quite obvious that redraif doesn't wear her heart on her sleeve (i.e. not being offended by puerile and consequently irrelevent opinions) - so why is everyone else? The only reason certain users enjoy posting such banal negativity is to get a rise out of everyone, therefore you're playing right into their fun.
It's become a board where everyone is deathly afraid to say anything remotely negative without adding a disclaimer to the effect of "I deeply appreciate the work that went into the car, and I'm very respectful of the owner." Blah blah blah ad nauseum.
That aside, I'm quite a fan of the car - for no other reason than it's the sharpest ode to red I've ever seen. I can't wait to see a few more recent shots of it.

Sometimes I think people forget that when you put yourself or your car up on a public forum not everyone is going to have something positive to say. That doesn't mean that we shouldn't use respect, but the reality is some comments are going to be positive, and others are going to be negative.
This leads me to my comments. I think it's great that she got some recognition for her hard work. I can respect hard work, and it's obvious she has put plenty into the car. I also think that car is the most hidious firebird I've ever seen. It shows a complete lack of taste, and anyone who builds something that off the wall is going to get plenty of bad comments. The trick is to let it roll off your shoulder. It's her car, so it really doesn't matter what anyone else thinks.

raif, I really look forward to seeing how the flush fender vents look. That's something I'd like to do myself when I have my T/A repainted. And you said 65mm Throttle body?!?! isn't the stock TPI throttle body 52mm and the upgraded one 58mm? Unless my recollection is wrong, isn't that way oversized for a v6?

the best analogy i can think of is: a tasteful tattoo on the small of a girls back vs. her whole arm covered in ink. it makes you think, why did that pretty girl go overboard and do that to herself. sometimes things are better simpler. to each his/her own though. there is a whole community that would love all those tattoos.
that being said, i like most of the mods that she did (did some myself), i personally just think that the amount of RED is overwhelming, and there is too many transitions between red and black. but i definately appreciate the time involved and how it can become an addicting hobby.

I think a lot of the reason the car gets so much negative attention is that unlike most cars on the net, there are a ton of pictures of it (dozens of pages of them), and a lot of them are early shots where things were tried that did not work out, and were later changed. The spoiler under the front bumper cover, for example...the idea was good, but to me the angles were never right, so it detracted from the car IMHO, and some people can't get over the fact that it used to be two stock spoilers. I understand what she was going for though, but considering she had no paint/bodywork/fiberglass fabrication experience and was working alone, I think she did pretty well. When she did this stuff there wasn't really an aftermarket for body stuff for these cars (except some hideous 80s leftovers), and no one was mixing and matching gfx like they do now; her car was the first I saw to use 91-92Z rocker pieces, for example. The car wasn't as nice in the early days, but that takes time, money, and experience, and nearly everything but the window tint is subject to change. I think once the wheels are gone (I never liked them either, nor do I like any chrome wheel) and replaced with something more modern, the Scorchers are gone (hate 'em), and the rear spoilers (which I don't mind, they're still more subtle than an aerowing and not as overdone) are replaced with a Mecham wing (can't find one for anything close to reasonable), a lot of the negative remarks will go away.
When the engine compartment gets its redo over the winter, most of the red wire looms and vaccum lines will be eliminated or routed in a way to be far less noticeable...they are the only thing I object to in the engine compartment , and I think they are what bother most people in the engine compartment also. Shannon likes to make ugly things prettier; I like to make them disappear (literally, or by using black so they blend with the engine compartment). Its just a different school of thought.
The interior is a little much for people who like more simple interiors, but even though my style is far more conservative than hers its still my favorite part of the car. Look in a C5, or GTO, or any number of cars with a red/black interior...they all stand out just as much. Overall, the car is flashier than most people would do themselves...me included, and I have helped with nearly everything done to the car in the last 4 1/2 years...but it was also built with the intention of showing, and a little extra flash is necessary if you're in anything but a concours type class. In spite of what some people may think, we both appreciate clean, stock appearing cars (anybody seen Dana Hartman's black 89 GTA from FL? Its one of the nicest we have ever seen!), but the truth is that once you cross the line, doing some body mods, you have to push the envelope a little further if you ever intend to win or get any coverage for the car. Its not for everybody, but the great thing is it doesn't have to be. Its just for her. It must be working, though, since the car has been featured in a book (Marc Cranswick's Firebird: The Autobiography), on Rides, and has a magazine feature article pending. I have been behind her efforts 100%, but when we first met I NEVER thought anything like that would be possible , especially not with a base model V6 thirdgen Firebird.
