What color blue to get my 1986 Camaro Painted?
My 1986 Chevy Camaro IROC-Z I am picking up June 4th needs a full paint job right away. The car is like half black, primer, and blue. It looks like the orignal color on the Camaro is Bright blue with paint code 23, and the inside of the car came with the light brown saddle color. Now I REALLY do like this shade of the color blue. I really don't like it too dark (like a navy blue) or too light like a sky blue. Now this Bright blue color, was it also called Bright blue metallic? Some places I have looked up this paint color, they say Bright Blue Metallic? Do you guys know off hand any other hot or good looking blue colors off of any other car that I can look up or have as an option if the place I am taking the car do doesn't have the Bright Blue Metallic? I want to keep it the stock by the way the color is blue, but maybe a different shade of blue that almost matches the factory color.
Picture of the car as it is right now is below.
Bright Blue 1986 Camaro IROC-Z
One last thing, can people post pictures or links to what the colors they suggest so I can see for myself what the color truly looks like? I wish I could find a site that allows you to type in a paint code and it shows you what it looks like.

well if you are a light blue fan id say go with Bahama Metallic Blue, it too is a rare color from corvette i think mid 90's i dont remember for sure.
i personally hate blue on thirdgens UNLESS its a dark metallic blue. right now im considering keeping mine factory torch red, go black, or try out the 4th gen Navy Blue Metallic which i have yet to see on a 3rd gen but i did see a close version BMW Orient Blue Metallic and WOW!!! id say stick with darker shades of blue.

I vote for Quasar Metallic Blue as used in the later C4 Vettes and '92 Firebirds. Great color, here's an example.

If you don't mind crossing over, AMC had an electric blue back in 71. I had it on my Javlin and I got stared at everywhere I went.
It was acrilic enamel that was pretty durable even in the Arizona sun! I warn you though, if you park it in a lot with floresant lights it will turn a light shade of purple.

I think the two colors I like the most are Admiral Blue off the 1996 Grand sport and Electron Blue off the newer style Corvette's. Both color's are almost the same looking. Admiral blue just looks alittle lighter color then Electron Blue. Might as well go with Admiral Blue because its more rare heh.

After looking over each color, I kind of now like the darker shade of blue that the Electron Blue has over the Admiral Blue. I have always been a darker color kind of guy, and that Electron blue I feel would look hot on the Camaro. What do you you guys think?. Below are 2 pictures of the 2 different colors.
Admiral Blue
Electron Blue
Tell me which color you like better.
Does anyone know the paint codes for Electron Blue Metallic and Admiral Blue off hand?

Since you have already narrowed it down to 2 choices, go with the darker Electron Blue (21U) from the newer Vettes. It will look better on a 3rd gen than the lighter Admiral Blue (28U).
Here's a link that you might find interesting although it only covers up to 1996.

Electron Blue is Hot. lol It came out exactly one year after I painted my car PPG 2000 GM Dark Blue Met. Not Navy as navy has hints of purple in it and is the blue on 4th gen f-bodies. Not too sure what GM car had this color, but I pulled it from PPG GM color chart dated 2000. Electron Blue would have been my first choice if it was around at the time, well, known to me atleast! Maybe next time I paint it I'll go that route but I want to do a two tone or something along those lines.

Wow I love that mustang blue!!!! The new Mazda and Honda blues are nice too.
But I'm getting my car back in two days from paint. It's going to be a midnight blue. I honestly don't know what it really looks like, but the painter was totally loving the idea of midnight blue and he wanted to do silver heritage stripes, and I was just like "sounds good". I was really really just kinda like whatever, it's weird guys, but he just had it in his mind it would fit what were doing to my car and I trusted his judgement lol, not even really knowing or seeing the color!!! Dumb I know but we'll see how it turns out, I'll have pics in the next few days

Damn, you almost sound like one of those wealthy guys who calls up a place like Boyd's custom hotrods and tells them an idea and keeps sending checks every week not even knowing the progress of their own car! lol Hope it turns out well for you. I could never do that with my car. Maybe b/c its my first car, i love it, and like to do most of my own work if I have the right tools/access. Post up pics when its done, wether you like it or not

admiral blue looks much better in person. My buddy had a 5.0 with ROH ZS and Dech skirts and he painted it admiral blue. It was one of the nicest looking cars around. everyone would stop him and ask about it.....which isnt always the case with 5.0s
Another blue I like is Intense Blue found on earlier Dodge Dakotas and Rams (shown here on a stang)
And Atlantic Blue found on SN95 Mustangs
