20" chrome IROC Rims. Too much?

Hey guys, after i saw thoes 18" chrome yummies on that convertible IROC, ive been sold on them. problem is, is that they are 18x8! thats no fun, i want wider tires too.

they sell a 20" version of the rims, 20X9. a smidgen bigger. how wide of a tire could you fit on that?

How ow do you think your car would have to go to make them look super sweet?

I'd be interested in anyone that get's those!
It would be interesting to see what they
would look like...you would have to run like
30 series tires...

With the work it took to get the 18's to
look right, I think the 20's would be a
bitch to put on.

Hah! with the results, i say its time well spent! your car looks awesome. im sick of seeing SUVs with 20" rims. makes me feel left out. i would love to show them how cool 20's would look on a REAL car.

Hey Christos,
Where is Alistos, CA. If you decide to go with the 20's I can help you out? To tell
you the truth though, I'm not sure if they
would look good on the car? The 18's on my
car look massive....the 20's will look...?

You risk the sign of your car looking like
a horse buggy....you know, you've seen them..
those small imports that have these huge rims
that just look totally disproportional.

If you're just looking for a wider rim, then
maybe the IROC rims are not the way to go.

There are however many many other awesom rims
that you can get. Before I got these rims
I was going for the "BBS" rims look. I think
a set of 18's with a fat lip would look awesome. That's the next style I will get for the car.

True, but your car has thoes 18"s and it looks awesome. i would love to be all rim. i think it would look good. make the import croud cry.

haha aliso viejo is between LA and San Diego. Its in "orange county" around say, 15 miles from irvine.

I don't live near anyone. it sucks! third gen'ers need to move over near me, haha help me out with all of my car problems.

the 20" rims are a while away, but i was wondering if it was possiable.

Thanks! ill drop you a e-mail or message or something when i eventually get them, and perhaps we could have some fun beating them under the wheelwells. haha

Obviously this is a point of view question and I am not flaming anyone's car but in my opinion any wheel larger than 17" is too big.

Just my opinion.

In my opinion, the bigger the rim the better. I want my whole wheel well full of chrome. Nice set of low low profile tires, and it would look sweet.

I have the 16 inch chrome IROC rims on my car and I must say that I love them. The only thing that I don like is that it takes away from the rest of the car because with the shiny chrome rims it seems like all anyone notices. I think you would probably be going in over your head if you did buy 20's. As Mr. IROC-Z already said, it is a pain in the *** to make 18's fit and look right so just imagine the fight that it will be to make those 20's look good. And one more thing I agree with chuck when he said that anything bigger than 17" is too much. Except Mr. IROC-Z did a good job of making me like his 18's.
If you want to see my 16" chrome IROC's you can see them at snflupigs' webpage: http://snflupigus.tripod.com/seeus/zimmerman/zim.htm

Cobra killer! awesome! you have an awesome car. i want to pick up the same hood as you, remember?

Well, i understand its about opinion. of course! what isn't? Well, after i saw mr IROC-Z's 18" rims, i liked them so much, i figured that some 20"s would fit even better looking, and require less work.

Im not a fan of ricers myself, but still, it would be cool to have some bigger cooler looking rims, which actually were MADE for my car. (IROC rims, IROC Camaro...)

make the ricers feel stupid about their $40 dollar "AssAXionXorS III KEELAHS" body kit bull****.

im surprised they even sell the 18"s and 20"s if the 18"s themselves were a pain in the *** to setup. of course, im sure mr iroc wasn't about to just "put them on". hell, if i had his magical ability to work on cars, i sure as hell would put that effort into my car!

"Them be 20s" quote from Next Friday

I'm with Chuck anything over 17" starts to look bad on 3rdgens. It has to do with the fender over lap. Mr IROC-Zs 18s do this, look at the pictures and how his tires slightly disappear behind the upper fender lines. Anyone who wants bigger then 17" feel free to, more power to you, just checkout Mr IROC-Zs other post first. Sorry Mr IROC-Z, this is just my opinion.

Anyone who needs to have 20" wheels on their car is usually trying to distract the eye from how shetty the car is. Why do you think those rice-burner's need big chromies? Because the damn car is a freakin toyota... it's nothing to look at. And since they can't afford a nice lookin car, they buy the next best thing... wheels. Anyone who's trying to compete with a foreign car with big chrome wheels, you've got problems. There is a word termed to when you do to much to a car...like add to much chrome... I think you guys know what it is.

True true, i see your point. but i don't plan on getting these rims right off.

I plan on getting the IROC Daytona hood like cobrakiller, and i thought some huge chrome rims would really draw attention to my car. i have an idea for a paintjob, (of course, i bet it will cost in the 10K area) and i think the rims would draw alot of attention to the car.

No, i don't mean RICE logos. i mean good old muscle car flames, but a bit diffrent than normal.

Im reminded of my friend ineko in denver, cute japanese girl. she finally bought her dream car while i was living in denver. a 1970 Dodge Charger 500. you should have seen the looks all the ***** boys gave her, when she drove over their stupid little hondas. they had very impotent looks on their faces, and once they saw it was a GIRL driving that beast...haha. it was awesome! im sure they went home and cried because they were such *******.

Get Blown,
Thanks for your insight....but that is the
whole point of the look....for the tires to
slightly tuck under the fenders. Again,
without any modifications to the fender, there would not be any wheel travel, and
there would not be any point in doing this.

But, I have always liked the way show cars
looked....slammed. I modeled my car after
this theme, while also maintaining drivability. I think if you saw my car in
person you would change your mind about
the 18's. ALthough I agree with you that
some times too big of a rim will not look
good. Take another look at the car. See
how beautiful she sits.....just amazing!

I fully understand the whole idea behind "slamming" your car, but it's just not the look I care for. It is a very nice looking car I grant you that, but I think it's a little too much.

interesting.

yeah, i can see how some people could call it "domestic rice" but i think his car looks awesome. there are alot of thirdgens out there, and i think its cool to change the look of your car slightly. i dont mean get some stupid body kit, or anything like that.

if i see a thirdgen on the road, its cool, but when i see a sweet paintjob, and a cowl hood, etc. i say "awesome!" it shows that third gen owners arn't all against changing the look of the car. ricers like to point it out that our cars all look the same, and we don't put any effort into making them look even a little custom. hey, sleeper cars are cool, but there is still a lacking of diffrent styled thirdgens.

Hey, GM has an awesome design team for our cars, but that doesn't mean we cant tailor them to look better to suit our personal tastes.

From the look of thoes 18"s on mr IROC-Z's camar, the more i think about it, the better they sound. they look perfect. i like the way the rim fills up the wheelwell. it screams performance, and good taste. it catches the eyes, and it shows that thirdgen owners put effort into their cars, like the ricers. just better, because we don't have to buy a whole new ***** body to make our cars not look like a grocery getter grandma car.

nothing amuses me more then to see a honda with a wing, pull up to the exact same model/color honda, WITHOUT a wing. and the wingless car has a pair of old people driving it. perhaps because the car is a "economy" car, and wasn't ment to be tweaked out with performance mods.

Well, i got a bit off topic, and of course we all have our own tastes. I like the look of slimmer profile tires, and i like the larger chrome rim style. It makes your car stand out more, and shows everyone you put effort into making your car look good.

i just wish they made the iroc chrome rims in wider sizes. 245mm is nice, but 295mm would stick alot better.

I think you are right Get Blown.

The ride is harsh as hell. I liked the idea
of a NASCAR style feeling last year, but
it can get rough on your *** , especially with
those racing seats. I think once I mature
more, I will not this to my cars any more...
hehheh.
And not mention 18' tires cost more than
rim!

hey Mr. IROC-Z !!!

I love the look of the 18's. I read you saying the ride was harsh, but how does your car handle at high speeds ? And does it corner well at the same speeds ?
And would i need any mods (or have the same handling) if i used 17's with a low profile tire ?

Yeah tires for wheels like that are not cheap I'd imagine. Have you swapped gears to compensate for oversized wheels or are you still using stock gearing?

EDIT: Also do you have LCA relocation brackets installed?

Hey, you can put whatever rims you want on your thirdgen and you won't hear me say anything negative until you get into 14-inch 160-spoke gold-plated high-offset rim with optional tire-slashing spinner territory.

As long as I never see a thirdgen with a three-tier TIE-fighter hangliding red LED'd, badly matched paint spoiler, I have nothing against custom appearances.
