red or dark gray metallic?
looking to paint the car this summer. i am getting a cervini's 3" cowl hood sometime in the next month. i am not going to be getting a show car quality paint job by any stretch of the imagination. possibly $500 at the most. i am going to do the door jambs my self, all the body work will be done by me as well. what do you think, paint her back red (no two tone, all red) or dark gray metallic like on the new silverado's?

i think the dark grey metallic in general would look much better not to mention if youre keeping those wheels the dark grey with black wheels with a polished lip would be awesome

Personally, I like the 2-tone but since that's not a choice I say go with red. Figure there are enough black 3rd gens out there (mine included). So red is a nice break from the norm. Also, the car looks good spoiler-less. Only a few can pull it off though.

oh, and thanks for the comment about the spoiler. i really think it looks great now, it's all one color! i filled the holes in and painted it (quick job with bondo and rattle can...i know, i know....) and it looks pretty darn good. i will try to get pics as soon as possible.

problem with that is, HOK paint is EXPENSIVE!!! seriously, i am only willing to pay 300-500 for this. i think it will end up being red. it's not a show car. it's a race car. i just happen to drive it everyday. another reason not to paint it too nice. i also work on the car alot. there will be opportunities for it to get scratches. it's getting a cowl hood and i want it all one color. that's all.

I vote for red over dark grey but silver would probably be my first choice. I would chose red or silver because these colors hide flaws better than a dark grey would. Small dings or imperfections in the paint surface stand out on dark colors much more than on lighter colors, silver in my opinion is probably the best color for hiding imperfections.

My car is dark grey metallic, or gunmetal some call it. Looks ok when really shined up but pretty much invisible even then. Being an old guy that's fine with me. Just can't beat a flame red third gen Camaro unless you go all out and get a flawless black paint job, and that's big dollars. I vote for red.

Nice color scheme tom3. Love the look of it! I vote for the dark grey met. For two reasons; one, it is more rare, and two, red is just a terrible color IMO on our cars(stock red). But that doesn't mean much now does it?

I say dark grey. Would look better with the wheel on the car now and fit better with the sleeper race car idea. Cops would notice you less too!
Oh and on the paint prices...yes red in one of the most expensive pigments!

hey redraif, know any body in the area that doesn't charge an arm and a leg to get a quazi decent paintjob? i'm gonna do the body work, it doesn't have to be perfect, but it's gotta be at least ok. right now i am considering econo paint in Macon, cause it's close and cheap. i saw some of their finished products, and they didn't look so bad for how much they were charging (like 250ish). but i don't want it to look ghetto.

I really have not found any good shops around here except my guy! He does not run a shop, but manages a training center. He does great work for a great price. I need to talk to him about fixing up a few things on my car. I will see if he is interested in any work. He is usually so busy that it is hard to say. He is up past 400. As far as $...not as good as you are quoting, but a near show quality finish is what he does! I will ask and see what he says! Not sure what he would charge for a scuff and shoot!

Well I know it took forever for an answer... on my painter... he has been next to impossible to get ahold of! I finally tracked him down this week. Met with him today. He can barely do the repairs to my car let alone tackle another car anytime soon. Sorry it too so blasted long. He has a ton of classes he has to teach and alot of out of town work for Spies-Hecker & Dupont! So he acn't really say when he could do a whole car.
