powder coating driveshaft ???????

Hi guys, I was about to powder coat my aluminum drive shaft and I noticed that the balancing weight has what looks like some kind of epoxy around it. Does anyone know what this is or if it will hold up to powder coating. Can I take off what's around the weight so i can coat it well? Thanks

I don't think it would make it much heavier. I'd bet it only takes a couple of ounces of powder if that. Probably less.

i am not sure what it is that holds the weight on but, why would you powder coat it? if you do i would take it to a driveline shop and have it balanced afterwords. you could just polish it.
Since it really isn't seen i just had mine balanced and i put it in the car.

balancing of a driveshaft needs to be VERY precise. If you decide to powerder coat it, then it's imperative that you get it balanced afterwards. Practically anything you do to the driveshaft that alters weight, merits a re-balbance... i'd say the only exception would be if you clean it up n' lightly spray paint it.

On searching I couldn't find anything about powdercoating aluminium driveshafts. Why do you wish to powdercoat it?

Theres plenty of info out there as regards polishing your driveshaft to a nice finish to enhance its appearance.
