sandblasting rims

Car: 1987 Pontiac Firebird
Engine: 350 sbc
Transmission: T-56
sandblasting rims

no idea where to put this but o well

is it ok to sandblast the stock formula firebird rims? or should i just take the time and wet sand them? or blast then wet sand? thanx in advance.

depends on the look you want sand blasting will give a pitted look like rough cast very hard to shine after that. I would follow the tech article for polishing if you want a shine. if you are ainting them than sand blast should be ok.

Sandblasting will leave them very rough looking. I had a core support blasted and I couldn't believe how rough the metal was when I got it back. I would imagine aluminum wheels would be worse, as alum is softer.

If you do decide to sandblast the wheels, I'd paint them with several coats of clear afterwards. Otherwise, brake dust is going to be impossible to remove from all the little "pits"

find a blaster that uses a potasium(baking Soda???) material. That should be a much smoother finish.

Axle/Gears: RUSTY AND BRAND NEW
The finish and pitting depends on the grit of blasting compound you use. For steel we use 40 grit. For aluminum we use 400 to start and 1000 to finish.
