Hawks idea for 5 inch firebird spoiler
as u might remember from an earlier post i made, i was looking at the 5 inch rear spoiler for the camaro thinking it would fit on a bird. as a few members told me that the bird is a little wider they told me to drop Hawks a line. well i did and here is what he replied:
Hi,
What if we did a remake of the one like on the 88 firebird with the
apperance package it was a 5in type spoiler
Thanks,
Bruce Hawkins

well i just wrote back to hawks and just asked if they could also re-produce the spats as well, ive never seen that package b4 now and now i need it! Bruce seems to be on it so hopefully he will start the production and get it out this year.

that spoiler would look a hell of a lot nicer than the 5 inch on a bird, i wonder if he would make it with or without the brake light...and also whats the spats one look like?

ok got some more news. Bruce will start production on them but needs a rough estimate on how many people will want these and to put up a deposit on them because he says it will be pretty expensive to get the production started. so does anyone else really want this to happen? he says he can reproduce the spats and spoiler so c'mon guys how many of you want this?

I would love a 3-piece spoiler for my Trans Am that would resemble the 2nd gen Trans Am spoilers. The appearance package spoiler doesn't do it for me being a 1-piece design. And I'm not sure if the 5-inch camaro spoiler is exactly the shape I'd want either, but it'd definitely be closer to what I want. This is an idea i've been kicking around for a while now.

I wish someone would make the wheel spats on that 88. I would murder for those wheel flares. The spoiler on the other hand... eh.

How about shutting up if you're only in this thread to say it's cursed and that it's soooo funny and pathetic. I'm curious about what the side pieces would look like to match up with the firebird quarter panels. Did you discuss how the finished product would look? Basically, i hope it would follow straight down the quarter panel rather than be angled towards the front of the car like the Camaro version is.
I suggest requesting that Hawks does a quick mock-up just so you can post a picture of the design concept and be sure that everyone is on the same page.

To add, my favorite quote which has yet to be 100% disproven..
Just don't forget that unless it's made of polished unobtanium and is priced under $10, nobody will buy it and they'll all just sit there and complain that it's overpriced. Every time somebody goes through the work to develop a thirdgen product, it's the same routine.

Ok... so the notch is still in the works... and no one is EVER going to get that Japanese hood.... but Hawks did come through with the 5 in for the camaro and the doubt a mold would need much reconditioning to make a firebird piece from a mold off a camaro spoiler... you could actually modify one yourself if you really wanted i suspect, and a $50 deposit isnt much at all. I'm gonna make an educated guess and say the spoiler would be the same as the one for the camaro (like 250 or 350... cant remember check HAWKS site) so I would say this is actually one of the few do-able GP's of the board if people actually come through with a little deposit money. Good luck firebird guys!!
btw.. where can i buy unobtanium?

Deadbird, I am aware of the track record and I often roll my eyes at threads similar to this, but I don't dive in and say it's hopeless. I respect you and your contributions to this site, but I believe you are being too cynical. Despite failed attempts and the multitudes of members that say they'd be all over a product until it's time to put their money where their mouth is.... the truth is that many products have been produced because of efforts made by board members. As grnsgryoutmyway said, this is probably one of the easiest parts to be developed since the center section is already produced.
It's yet to be determined if there is enough demand for the product or not. If we can have at least a sketch of how the side pieces that Hawks agrees is doable, there is a better shot at getting members on board.
PS- what the heck ever happened to the notchback repro? It was a big deal and then it seems to have totally disappeared.

Jeremy, I was talking to Redraif and LT1guy (the two respocible for getting the original notch and talking Bruce into making repros) and he got the mold finished but the notches made from it were slightly warped and as it turns out apparently the notch that the mold was made from was actually warped. Now he could go ahead and sell it (cough ascd ss hood) but he's now in the process of going back and fixing the mold so that it works properly... supposedly it should be done soon but he has other projects going on as well

That's too bad that they're running into such problems. I just reread this post from the top and I'm somewhat embarrased that I didn't quite read it right. I thought you were talking about modifying the 5" camaro spoiler to fit a firebird... turns out you're talking about reproducing the 1 piece 88 appearance package spoiler. In that case, definitely count me out. In my opinion, the spoiler looks second rate if it's one piece rather than 3. Anyway, if there is enough interest out there, I wish you the best in getting it reproduced.

I hope that it's better quality than the 5" IROC spoiler I bought from him. I know he doesn't make them (he outsources) but there is a lack of quality control. I waited over a month for mine and when it got here it fit's poorly (YES, I know that all fiberglass parts need work to fit properly, but mine will require a decent amount of extra attention) and there is a crack on one of the side pieces. I didn't try to return it or exchange it since I'll be having alot of body work done anyways, and if it took so long to get here, who knows how long it would take to fix the problem.

I know this is an old thread, but I was wondering if these reproductions were ever made?? I've been looking for a set of the SAP pieces for a while and got a hold of Bruce about these. I also was curious about the 5" Camaro spoiler and if it would fit on the Firebird. I then stumbled upon this thread, so I contacted Bruce again about the reproduction SAP parts but haven't heard from him yet. I'd really like to get these so I was just wondering if he ever did make these or did the whole project fall though or what...

I don't know but I was wondering if those spats were custom made, never seen them before except on this car which looks sick...I was thinking of doing something like this, incorporate those spats into a widebody, never seen a widebody bird till I saw this car
don't know who's it is...but whoever's car that is....that thing is sweet.

So have you heard any more about the spoiler? are they going to reproduce it? I might be interested in one if they do, depending on if my car needs work or not.
